Brilliant performance again from him !

Unsung hero.  But just wait until we are beaten.  "Need to drop Burn" etc.  Every time.

Really hoping Botman's knee is fine for Man C, because that looks like a good few weeks out for Burn. I think he'll struggle to get back in at all after a few games of Schar and Botman at CB

I'm hoping he had the final in the back of his mind and decided to come off with it been a minor strain.

I'm worried at what state we'll arrive to the final at.

We've got City, Forest, Liverpool, West Ham and an F.A Cup tie sandwiched in-between to contend with.

Hopefully we'll get a favourable tie in the cup because we're going to have field a similar 11 as we did tonight for that.

If this is not a few weeks, then by the final we'll be as full strength as we've ever been.

Liverpool have about 3 more games than us in the same time, where we have only 1 week that we have a midweek game. I don't think fixture overload will be a thing. This is where not making it to Europe should help us.

It's not as simple as that though.

Every time a player gets injured it puts more load on the rest of the squad i.e in this case potentially having to play Botman all the way through to the final.

That can produce more injuries.

Anyway, I'd be happy if we get to the final with 2/3 of Schar, Burn and Botman fit.

Aside from that, Tonali and Isak are our most important players imo.

Sick of hearing this shit.  He's been our best defender by far this season.  Some on here talk as if he should be out in the field with the other lame farm animals.  He's a colossus.  Love him.  AND he will bust a gut for us at the League Cup Final where we stuff Liverpool.

Who pissed in your chips?

By far is a stretch.

Anyway, you've completely missed the point. Svet Botman is our best defender, and if he is fit and plays the next few games at LCB, then he stays there until he needs rotating.

Schar is our best RCB. So, if he is in good form and not injured then he stays in the team.

So, when Burn is back fit, he'll struggle to get back in. As there no chance he plays Burn RCB or moves Botman over to accommodate him. Regardless of how good Burn has been, our defence is best balance with Schar and Botman.

I think the breather will do him good. Was surprised to see him start to be honest. He's been a far better defender than the guy we bid £60m for in the summer. Credit to BDB, he's a player.

So underrated; decent on the ball, strong, can press high, defend deep, just very dependable and a leader on the field.

People complain about his lack of speed but good God, the lad’s almost 7ft tall! If he had prime Ashley Cole’s recovery pace he’d one of the best defenders in the world .

  • 2 weeks later...

Dude has had a solid season, but more and more recently, in particular today and the two recent home losses where Fulham and Bournemouth clearly didn't press him on purpose, he keeps trying to play difficult passes into midfield.

Just stay in your lane Dan, play to your strengths and don't expose your weaknesses. He keeps attempting silly things when there is a far simpler pass on.

Probably won't happen as he is likely a nailed on starter for the final because of his form all year, and has been more reliable than Schar this season. But if he can get fit in time, Botman has to play in my opinion.

Exactly what I said.

First I thought we had made Burn out main play maker but I think you are right In that other teams have sussed that 1 in 5 passes will end up as a goal opportunity for them

He’s a big lad and he’s played a lot of football and he always leaves everything on the pitch. I think he’s looked fatigued for a while now. I think he’d benefit greatly from a few weeks off.
Probs won’t happen because Botman may not be fit and also EH doesn’t favour rotation much, even with players available.
Hope he gets a 2nd wind and can continue his great form from up to the Wolves game (that’s when I thought he started to look leggy).

He gets a bit overconfident at times and that might be why teams lay traps for him.

That said, it's a difficult situation for him because he's the one that will end up with space to play.

Really hope Botman can get ready for next season, otherwise we need to bring in two CBs in the summer.
