he was really good while on loan, signing him permanently made sense at the time

think he's just been very unlucky

that is how i see this too.  great loan, warranted a move (and as you say, made sense at the time) but has had a real unfortunate run since. plus with bringing in others etc too has pushed him down the pecking order.

Don’t think it’s been confirmed yet but I know there’s been talk of bringing Scrapheap Challenge back to our small screens with Matt Targett as the presenter

Ah man, if we didn't need to shift him before we absolutely do now.

Remember reading he was up for sale in Jan but no one interested. I suspect he's here for another year.

Our modern day Hayden/Hendrick/Jogback. He's here until next summer. At best someone loans him in January for the remaineder of the season before he leaves on a free.

Deal made sense at the time so can't blame anyone for how it turned out. Wish him all the best.

Shame, because the club are probably relying on him being an adequate option for LB next season and pushing off needing to spend at full back till 2026. Otherwise the club may have to make a RB or LB a required signing they can trust, because Trips / Tino / Hall you can't go with just them. Rule Targett out (and probably should Lascelles really) it's 7 (when we get a new RCB) for 4 positions. Going back to thin territory for a season of Europe / Domestic Cups / Pushing on in league.

The Willock effect, we gotta stop signing these loan-with-no-obligation guys.... :)

I think we tried everything to not sign Targett, in fairness.

Unlike those 3 he is a squad player and part of the group.

Sures he’s probably paid a bit too much in wages, and his transfer fee is now too much given his role, but talent wise he’s absolutely fine for his role in the squad.

Feel really bad for him as from what I've heard he's a lovely lad, but I can't see anyone taking the risk of ever signing him unless it's on a free for low wages.

Willock has contributed hugely to us though ???

He's had the odd good appearance from what I can remember, but absolutely nothing like his performances when on loan at us. He seems to be regressing as a footballer month by month. Am I being overly harsh?

Edit : He's had a good couple of moments that I can recall, the down-the-line cross into the box from the left, the outside of the boot through ball to Isak, and taking that shot from Almiron's dribble.

Feel for Targett; yeah, wages, blah blah... most honest pros like him want their career in football to include playing football and that's not been possible for him for seemingly years at this point. It'll be a bit shit spending your best years just trying to recover from one injury to the next, especially without any realistic prospect of getting into the team at the end of it.

I know we've not sold great but we've been really unlucky with injuries in this respect. He probably only stayed this season due to injuries now this harms his chances of being moved on for money in the summer again. Same could be said of Lascelles, Wilson and perhaps Willock.

We are definitely in give away for free territory.

For whatever his issues regarding injuries, there's a decent player there for someone.

You've got sides like Burnley and Leeds coming up, if I were them, I'd 100% take a punt on Targett and Lascelles. At the very least they'd give you a two good experianced characters. If you can get them fit, they are PL players, or at least were prior to injuries.

Always disappointing when a move doesn't quite work out. Have nowt bad to say about owld Sherman like, seems a good lad.

If the 100k a week wage is true we’ll probably be stuck with him for the full length or at least paying big part of them during a loan spell.
