Defoe - Good striker who had a fairly successful career, but most of that was for Spurs. Had two 15-goal seasons for Sunderland, so not bad.

Phillips - Decent striker who had one outstanding season in the Premier League and one other good season. Half of his success was in the second tier though.

Diallo - A loanee who played 37 times for them in the Championship. Embarrassing.

Clarke - Has looked decent in 2 seasons in the Championship for them. They seriously don't have a better choice for that position?

Summerbee - Can't really remember much of him playing. Scored 7 goals for them according to Wiki. Again, nobody better?

Ball - Shite clogger

Bardsley - Another shite clogger but at RB.

Gray - Was decent and solid from memory. Was a good servant for them so probably an understandable pick.

Mensah - Another loan who only played 34 times for them. Not even the first footballer called Mensah to come up when you google the name. Lol

Craddock - Another I can't really remember well, but made quite a few appearances for them in the PL. Is now an artist according to Wikipedia and seemingly very talented after a quick google.

Sorensen - Always thought he was very solid, so is one of the couple of non-embarrassing choices

In summary: Sunderland are a massive club

No Adam Johnson?

Probably trying to distance themselves from him now so they can form a narrative that they never really supported him

Aye, they must have forgot about Pickford as well.

Then again, he didn't even play a full season for them.

He played more games for Bradford

The truth is worse.

They actually still idolise him, because, and I quote, "he ruined the mags Christmas when he scored the winner in the derby"

They reckon he lives "rent free in our heads" for that reason alone.

Really?

They should have a mackem version of that old Reebok advert with the Man United greats, showcasing Giggs' in Reeboks.

"....their greatest ever team, Kevin Ball would be in it...."

Two loanees, one of whom has only played for them in the championship. Two strikers who had two good seasons for them each max (one admittedly very good). Two thugs who would be sent off within ten minutes in today's game. One of whom was pictured in the local media drunk on a casino floor covered in £50 notes after what I believe was one of their final seasons of swirling around the bowl before being finally flushed. The other one stood up in a court of law to defend one of the fish quay participants at some later stage about a ban from travelling to matches. Amazing that for half the 'best team in the last 40 years'. [emoji38]. A couple of the others I can't remember. Decent keeper but nothing special.

If you done a mixed team for them and us over the same period the best they get would maybe be Philips on the bench in the second XI.

Don't think he did, sadly, but that would have been enjoyable.

I can’t even take this seriously. Who the fuck is Jon Mensah?

As a 34 year old, I’d be asking how many times they’d seen Ball play as well. Didn’t he retire in 1999/2000?

Just looking at the forwards in an equivalent lifetime as a proxy to choose from:

Shearer

Cole

Beardsley

Ferdinand

Asprilla

Bellamy

Cisse

Ba

Perez

Rondon

Owen

Wilson

Carroll
