Their Bilbao obsession is the weirdest thing out there.  It would be like us claiming a connection with Juventus, even though real history tells us that their kits were adopted from Notts County’s.  I’m not aware of Southampton claiming a connection; besides, why would adopting a team’s kit over a century ago make a connection?  I’m not aware of Leeds & Real Madrid talking about the special connection between their clubs due to Don Revie adopting Real’s colours for Leeds.

They’re a genuinely peculiar bunch.

They just need like some form of comfort blanket that makes them seem relevant that's what it is. They know nobody else in the country really cares about them and they are always seen as a smaller less prominent version of Newcastle so will cling onto anything they think makes them relevant.

Tragically I think some of them make infinitely more fuss about a potential link to Ath. Bilbao's kit than Notts County do about their well known factual connection to Juventus'.

Boca Juniors strip was based on the sail flag of a Swedish ship. You don't hear Olaf on the Newcastle to Gothenburg ferry banging on about it.

Totally forgetting that since the Premier League's first season 92/93 they've been out of the top flight for more seasons than they've been in it. They're currently into their 9th seasons out of it but yes they're a mid table Premier League side.

They had Matt Le Tissier over a few years ago as their first entry into "One Club Legends" club. No idea if was chosen first due to their links.

Shame Luke O'Nien had played for a couple of clubs before Sunderland as I'm sure they'd have absolutely loved inviting him over.

One of them making an argument that the likes of Newcastle and Everton will revert to their mean average and go into the Championship.

Correct me if I am wrong - and it pains me to say it but - Everton have been constantly in the Premier League since it was started.

We been out for 2 or 3 seasons while they have been outside the top flight more than half of the years it has been around.

They really think they could give Brighton or Bournemouth or PSG a game?  Jebus!!

Is there any metric by which Newcastle (and yes, loathe to admit it but Everton too) aren't comfortably a top-20 club in England?

Just checked on wikipedia, turns out there's no massive asterisk next to the result after all.

Maybe it only appears on the page if you go through wikipeydier instead

None whatsoever, but that won't stop those orcs from telling you otherwise.

TBF, he's saying everyone except us, Everton and the Sky 6 will go into the Championship.

Love this "the six in a row was on a level playing field"

Owned by Ashley and had Pardew, Carver & McClaren in the dugout.  Level playing field?  Wey aye.

Cunts.

Aye but that was their level. Us at our worst was them at their best.

Said it before but in the last 40years Wimbledon - a non-league club until the 80s and a club that hasn't existed for quarter of a century - has a better league, cup and European record than Sunderland.
