Lots of harsh words in here, but you absolutely have to give him credit for the save on that overhead kick, that was an absurd bit of goalkeeping and we 1,000% would have thrown the game away if that goes in.

If you think that has anything to do with Pope he must be the best GK in the world in your mind.

So he's to blame when we lose yet nothing to do with our 2 - 1 victories when theres so few games when ramsdale has kept us to a single goal - gotcha.

We don’t win that game yesterday if it wasn’t for Pope. His footballing skills are woeful though, has to be replaced in the summer, should have been replaced last summer.

Two mistakes with his kicking which we got away with, but I thought he was great at claiming the ball and made some great saves.

One of the saves he got to, not only did he make a great save but he pushed the ball away from the danger zone. Ramsdale has only conceded 1 goal or less in the league in 2025 twice and popes matched that in last two games. I think regardless of his kicking this gives us a much better chance too push on and beat the likes of west ham, forest and Leeds. Sure we need a better keeper in the summer but the harshness on here towards him isn't needed imo as we get over the line  when he' in a lot more often.

Pope at his best a few seasons ago is the best keeper I’ve seen at the club. If Pope was in Keegans side, we win the league.

Hes declined though and the kicking is a liability. It’s sad to see, and I don’t think he starts for many premier league clubs these days.
I strongly believe that if we had signed Trafford we would be comfortably sat in 6th place. The gk department is a mess, and from what I’ve read that is on Paul Mitchell.
feel sorry for all involved, Pope for trying his best but it not being good enough and the impact on his legacy here, Ramsdale as he is no where near what’s needed, and Eddie as this situation is putting his job in real jeapardy.

it’s critical we buy a top class gk in the summer. It’s the most or second most important position in the team. Striker is the other.

His lowlights reel is gonna be hilarious come the end of the season. Some absolutely mental decision making coupled with him becoming more and more flat-footed with each game.

Aye, he’s got the Benny Hill slapstick bits down to a fine art. I love him and always will but I can’t wait to never see him in our net again

This is not specific to Pope at all, but the credit keepers get for making "great saves" that I actually think it's harder to not save them is so odd to me?

The overhead kick for example yesterday, it's in the middle of the goal? He'd have to literally deliberately pull his arms out of the way to not save it? Sure you can give credit for the reaction time, but he's a Premier League goalkeeper, it wasn't like the overhead kick was a bullet at him ffs, it's the most bog standard save to me and there's so many of them that Keepers get undeserved credit for as making "great saves".

I think even his biggest supporters have now realised he needs replacing as a priority, he'll go down as a Legend for the Cup Final alone, and rightly so. If he wants to stay as #2 great, if wants to go, good luck to him.

Yeah I'd have been disappointed if any keeper conceded that overhead kick

Pope's shit kick cost us their goal too

Pope got down well for the overhead kick, it came at him very quickly,it was a good save. That clump that led to their goal though, jesus it was sunday league. Murphy could have shown a bit more urgency mind, haven been beaten to when it dropped. He just trotted on a bit. Pope's reaction to the goal was a bit much, nowt to do with him,like [emoji38]

Cracking move mind you

We absolutely need a new keeper however, a little perspective. His kicking and some of his decision making is really poor and getting worse. That said, he’s still making top class saves, he comes off his line pretty well, his starting position and sweeping is again generally good. It’s the optics of watching him flounder around with his feet that make things look worse than the outcomes.

Their goal yesterday did start from a poor clearance however, Brighton then played through 5 or so of our players far too easily. There’s been 1 goal this season where he let a sitter in can’t remember who it was against.

To say he’s been a terrible keeper for us is just nonsense. Time to go definitely. We’d undoubtedly have more points, or at the very least have been under self inflicted pressure with a better keeper with ball at feet. The owners picked a good game to see the that need.

I don’t feel he “has to go” in fact very disrespectful given all that he has done for the club.

he does however need to stay at the club as an excellent goalkeeping option and compete for his place alongside another excellent goalkeeping option.

that is not Ramsdale who is as we’ve found out worse than Dubravka.

I blamed Pope at the time but TBH the Brighton goal was absolutely brilliant play by them. Sure the clearance is dogshit but they put together an incredible move to score.

I’ve said for ages that it annoys me when people say “aye but he’s a good shot stopper” in response to concerns about his kicking. However, yesterday we saw the best of him (kicking aside), he made some good saves and commanded his area well also.

He's making mistakes regularly now, but I still prefer him to Ramsdale who jumps around his goal area for no apparent reason and is often on the wrong foot to make a save because of it.

It seemed inevitable they would score as this was at least the 5th time pope had placed the ball perfectly on van heckes head, our midfield had not challenged for the second ball and they just played through us.

Has to be number 1 priority this summer getting a steady and stable keeper.

We’ve seen the difference it’s made at Man U replacing that clown Onana.

Lammens looks good. Same with Roefs at the mackems. Shows a decent keeper doesn’t have to cost a bomb.

Aged well [emoji38]

In defence of Pope yesterday by all accounts he played the game with a groin strain. So explains his kicking even worse than usual. Also him not rushing off his line for their goal perhaps.

Popey had the mobility of Tinman from The Wizard of Oz.
