Not still arguing with that geezer on Facebook are you KI?

Nah, although that's easily the biggest post I've ever made on Facebook like. He's a nice bloke, but we've clashed a few times at work in the past because of that sort of thing. He absolutely insists that Ashley doesn't care what we do, even when presented with a ream of evidence showing that he clearly does.

How's that any different to any cup competition?

Exactly. The same blokes who would be apoplectic if a European super league happened complain about minnows being in the Europa and the likes of England having to play San Marino in games

It’s pretty obvious isn’t it?  Personally i would’ve scrapped the league format at the beginning and made it knockout format to give the smaller teams a better chance against the higher ranked sides.  It would make it much more exciting and i think a lot more neutrals would take an interest aswell.  The league format just makes it boring and the minnows have very little chance of bettering the bigger sides over 6 matches.

Not really. Are you claiming other cup competitions don't have any mismatches?

Qarabag played in the CL groups last season and took points off Atletico Madrid home and away. Weird that you think they're enough of a minnow to need their own competition.

The format's almost identical to the Champions League, it just has far more teams in it.

I agree that they should think about ditching the groups, not because there are mismatched games but because you can whittle down the field much faster in a round robin.

Josep Lluís Núñez, longest serving Barça president, died today. He was a huge figure in the 1980s and 1990s. He's most famous for having hired Johan Cruyff (which he nearly sacked in his first year), ushering the golden age of the club. He was a huge fan of Bobby Robson, incidentally. He tried to sign him as manager in the 1980s, and finally did it after he sacked Cruyff.

Dude was a massive crook. He ended up in jail for tax fraud in his personal business, and Barça got done for tax fraud too. He's the man that sold Maradona, Ronaldo and sacked Cruyff - which means he's the man that signed them in the first place.

He was a massive penny-pincher, which turned him into a cult figure. When he sold Maradona, fans were infuriated. He addressed the general assembly by - screaming at full voice - going over every fucking clause of the transfer and saying how well he negotiated them and how much money the club was making thanks to him.
