There's also the big issue of sending a message. It might even be part of their strategy to have numerous bids rejected and/or considered 'derisory'.

They're clearly not going to throw the cash about in the way Forest just have on that kid from Wolves and, tbh, I'm absolutely fine with that.

It's easy to forget, we ended up with top four form at the end of last season with Chris Wood playing every week. We can cope just fine if the deals don't come off.

We might have to lose some battles to win the war.

We are trying to keep as much of a budget back to lay onto a loan deal, probably for a Chelsea player.

If we can leave ourselves 8m or whatever to put down on a Pulisic or Gallagher for a loan with an obligation, we are in a great place.

Let’s not forget the Paqueta “set aside”

PIF paid a billion to settle the pirate tv dispute to clear the way for a 300m takeover.

Money can’t be the issue with transfers. It’s got to be ffp, not being seen as a soft touch and only making transfers that will improve us. It isn’t going to be easy doing business but it is important that we got at least 2 deals done.

We’re selling a vision and we’re going to miss out on quite a few targets early on. Sooner we get some proper sponsorship in the better.

In the meantime we are vulnerable to stalling and also to other clubs sniffing around Bruno/ Botman (assuming he comes good).

Big couple of weeks imo, if only to show that we are here and that we can get things done. It would be easy to look at us at the moment and think we are missing out on targets to other clubs (no disrespect to other clubs) that shouldn’t be competing with us and that we are also difficult to deal with (understandably it could argued). It’s quite clear that fans of other clubs simply think we should be rinsed and that money is no object.

It's via this exact method we got Bruno for £39 million and Botman for £32 million. It's frustrating, particularly when it's played out in public, but not only do we want to be seen as tough negotiators, we want to be tough negotiators.

They also just paid £93 million to stage a boxing match, if Howe wants a player really bad that won't upset the others and break the wage structure he'll get him.

It’s also the reason we failed to land top targets like Maddison and Ekitike.

Can’t we just sell some cunts to boost the transfer coffers.

Speaking of which, don't we still need to lose quite a few bodies from the squad in order to get the last couple of signings into the 25 man squad?

I thought we offered more for Ekitike than PSG did ?

In January we spent the whole window squabbling over a few million in add-ons which left Ekitike with a decision to make on deadline day that he didn’t want to have to make so quickly.

If we had just paid it a week or two earlier, we more than likely would've signed him seven months ago.

I get where you’re coming from but if we have a couple injuries which results in Wood starting alongside the likes of Murphy and Fraser, we’re in for a long season I think.

The dearth of attacking quality in the squad must be addressed, at least partially in this window.

And if we'd rolled over then we could have paid 40mill for Botman and all the other prices we get quoted would go up, Watford could be wanting 35mill for Pedro.

Pure speculation on your part.

The kid was always hanging on for PSG, once he got wind of their interest.

We agreed a fee for Ekitike. Maddison, I'd agree with but that breif saga was just bizarre.

I’ve answered that in the post above yours.

I’m not saying we should roll over and pay prices that are astronomical.
