My biggest issue is we’ve only signed one potential game changer this window. Feels like we’re a bit weaker this season. Obviously that could/should all change today.

The jury is out on the transfer window imo, will need to see in a few months how it's gone but if Woltemade is our only recognised striker we've taken a ridiculous risk.

Ramsey and Elanga are good signings, I don't rate Thiaw at all.

To stick to their word.

- get the fee they had briefed or close. Not 15% less.
- have the replacements through the door first

- sign high ceiling replacements or don’t overpay for a middling talent

I predicted this though. I said we would sell for less than what we are asking for, considerably so. And then overspend on a Wissa or JSL type signing. Panic sell panic buy. PIF haven’t shown an ability to handle difficult situations.

I don’t see how it can be a panic, it’s being going on for months.

Don't have time to read back. Have we worked out what the hell this solidarity payment of £5m is for and who pays that to us if it isn't Liverpool? Never seen it reported on a deal in my life!

Also, is their a reported figure for the loyalty payment we don't have to pay? I mentioned last night that I think we could have legally not paid it as his actions constituted a transfer request. It will be spun as Isak giving it up though to force his dream move.

Solidarity is explained in spoiler below. It's fairly long.

As for loyalty bonus, best I can surmise is that it varies but could be up to 10% of contract so £6.3m, but we don't know.

Spoiler

FIFA’s solidarity mechanism says:

5% of the transfer fee is distributed among the clubs that trained the player from ages 12–23.

Each year counts for a specific % of the 5%:

Ages 12–15 → 0.25% each year (1% total)

Ages 16–23 → 0.5% each year (4% total)

Total = 5%.

Isak clubs

AIK (Sweden): age 12–17 (2012–2017) → 6 years

Borussia Dortmund: age 17–19 (2017–2019) → 2 years

Willem II (loan): age 19 (2019) → less than a year, counts as part of age 19

Real Sociedad: age 19–22 (2019–2022) → 3 years

Newcastle: age 22–25 (2022–2025) → 1 year in the 12–23 window

Breakdown of £125m

5% of £125m = £6.25m total solidarity pot.

AIK: ages 12–17 = 6 “training years” → 2.25% of fee = £2.81m

Borussia Dortmund: ages 17–19 = 2 years → 1% of fee = £1.25m

Willem II (loan): technically included for part of age 19 → pro-rated, maybe ~£0.3–0.4m

Real Sociedad: ages 19–22 = 3 years → 1.5% of fee = £1.88m

Newcastle: age 22–23 = 1 year → 0.5% of fee = £0.63m

So the biggest winner is AIK, his boyhood club in Stockholm — they’ll get almost £3m from this Liverpool move!

Who is Nick W replacing? Isak or Wilson? I'd assumed the latter though I get they aren't like for like.

Isak really. But he needs to get used the league. Isak had Callum Wilson playing to help/give him time to bed in that first season, which will be why EH wants another with premier league experience, ala Wissa or Larsen.

I think its pretty clear that our fans are annoyed, rightly annoyed and me trying to bring the positivity at this moment isnt going to work, so im going to bow out.

However, you TCD and your ability to turn up like fucking Batman to the Bat signal at any sign of negativity is ridiculous. Nowhere to be seen when things are going well.

You've got this theory about the club being poorly run, fine, but you also thought we had a shit manager until he won us a cup.

Did they ever state what those conditions were?

I think given the constant media talk about two strikers coming in (an Isak replacement and a Wilson one), it's not a massive stretch to assume that the club saw that as a priority before Isak could be sold and meant that when they said conditions weren't met. They could have meant something entirely different, I suppose. But that's not exactly showing a strong position if the conditions were indeed less than that very basic need for the squad.

I can see a scenario where he stayed, it took a month to get him up to speed and he put in performances at 80%, even if he scored 15 goals, his value next summer would plummet.

For the club it was a risk.

Accepting his demands is a risk as well. Every player, club, and agent has just seen that going on strike at Newcastle works like a charm.

We also would have put him in a terrible position that could set him back if we don't ease the burden on him.

Hope this turns out as good as Carroll did for them.

What moves for over £100m have ever worked out superb?

He’ll be itching to move on in 3 years, so it’s a long wait till we can gloat, hopefully they have no titles to show for it by then.

Aye.  It’s a weaker window than the last CL spree. And we’ve sold our best player. We’ve signed a bunch of Harvey Barnes level talents.
Ramsdale aside everyone has been signed for a premium.

We didn't play Isak as an out-and-out striker when he first joined and I can similar for NW, which even more underlines the need for a body through the door tomorrow.

It still requires a club to pay big though, not many in the world that can drop record transfer fees.

If we was talking half the sum, even less if the player had one year left, I think our stance would be different.

End of the day, it’s a fee that will be hard to break in the future.
