Obnoxious and in my opinion indulgent to the point of it being nauseous. Of course there's likely some semblance of contradiction present here as not many fans wouldn't be gleeful with their club signing 5 of the world's best players in a month or so, but the way they're using their embarrassment of riches as a vehicle to look down upon other clubs and attempt to gaude other fans is repellent. Something like the landed gentry riding through a council state mocking it's inhabitants - which is ironic given it's Liverpool and the image they like to portray of themselves.

There was a cloak of humility that slowly fell during Klopp's tenure and they became successful again. He was great at that stuff. I still remember his 'only two clubs have no ceiling' patter the other year, which now seems laughable given Liverpool are on course to spend over 300m on 3 attackers. No doubt we'll see similar briefings this year on the genius of Arne Slot and the plucky underdogs that are Liverpool.

To your point, I get it, I wouldn't demand we cancel a deal if Sesko suddenly downed tools, but I'm not sure I'd laud it with glee either or encourage him to do it.

Why is somebody for AFTV being allowed to interview Bruno?

Great answer but shouldn't have happened. Media officer looks like he wants the ground to swallow him up.

Par for the course with the club at the minute. Everybody bar the players and coaching staff has checked out.

absolutely, and thats the ideal outcome IMHO - however, I’m convinced Howe would prefer to back himself with 200m than risk isak moping and destabilising a squad built on togetherness.

ESL shill Romano posting ‘Isak wants Liverpool’. Neither Isak or his team coming out and correcting him ‘actually that’s not quite true’.

This really is the ultimate betrayal. It goes well beyond someone having the desire to move up in their profession. Yes I know elite footballers have short careers and only earn 100s of thousands of pounds a week etc. etc.

This cuts deep.

Im of the opinion that this transfer is now inevitable.

He will go. Liverpool will stump up 140m for him.

The real issue is whether we can conjure up 4 quality signings in a month. I'd say there's not a cat in hells chance.

I also think he will go, but Liverpool can't dictate the price to us. I would imagine the bare minimum we'll agree to is £150m and if they won't pay it, they don't want him enough. That should send a very clear message to Isak as well as to how much they value him.

Bit off topic, but where has this narrative come from that if a player wants to leave in the middle of a contract, that they somehow have a God given right to leave?

The whole point of a contract is that both sides agree to lock into a set term of conditions. No one on either the club side or the player side is forced to agree and theirs inherit risk and benefit for both sides.

Players like long term contracts because it guarantees them financial security over the long term, and for clubs, it gives them control over a players commitment.

The downside for both parties is that you're locked into those conditions. If a player doesn't want to move, he can stay and collect his pay packet regardless of his performance. And if a club want to keep hold of a player, they have that right regardless of the players wishes.

Look at Isaac Hayden. Club has outgrown him for years, yet here we are 3 years later still paying his wages when he hasn't contributed anything to the club in years. But that's his right.

If players and agents want control of a players destiny, negotiate shorter term contracts. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

More I think about it, the more I realize this is just another strong arm tactic by the big clubs and their friends in the media to make it easier to get the players they want, when they want regardless of their contractual obligations

That would be a good outcome, however Howe having to start with Gordon or Osula in the middle with the £200m unspent is more likely to happen.

We need to make it crystal clear to Isak and his team, go ahead and explore your options, but under no circumstances are you moving to Liverpool. If he’s not happy with that, and if he doesn’t find another club, and he downs tools, then fuck him. Let him rot in the reserves for all I care.

Probably at start of season, not when league games have started.

Think Howe would be happy for Isak to leave early June 2026 before World Cup, so he can work on players over summer. Right now, him leaving doesn’t help us because of the changes needed (and the current struggle to sign even with Isak here).

I have to say through all this I've seen a particularly obnoxious side to Liverpool fans. The same ones who burned shirts for Trent now gleefully posting the exchange between Van Dijk and Isak at the cup final and citing as laying the ground work. Odious.

I find this so weird. I have a Liverpool supporting friend that has said the same.
I guess nothing is impossible, but i find the idea that in the midst of having just won a cup, Isak's first thought was to go over to VVD and talk to him about him joining Liverpool.
I think they truly believe that the footballing world spends every waking moment worshiping them.
Odd bunch

Yes, I've read and heard that Liverpool really want him and they're a giant of world football. If that's the case pay the fee

Wanting to leave and acting like a cunt by downing tools are two very different things

Guehi is the perfect example of how it’s done. He didn’t down tools when we were in for him. Professional. There are ways to go about it. Gordon was getting chased down the road by scally scrotes so I’ll forgive him that.

unless this has been going on behind the scenes for a while without our knowledge. They may be waiting for clarity before committing to options based on budget a) or budget b)

It usually takes months or years to agree a sale of world-class players. If Liverpool manage to buy Isak for £130-140 million with a couple of weeks of negotiations, it says a lot how far behind we are.

If we sell to them we are bending over and spreading cheeks.

Has the group decided that Isak has 'downed tools'?

He's declared an injury that reportedly wasn't verified by a scan conducted, which caused him not to join the squad which up until the celtic humping on the Saturday before howe was "certain" of he would be. Then while his team on the flight Craig no hope gets the word from somewhere isak wants out.

Not a massive leap to say he may have checked out on us.

Yep, the tribe has spoken.

Apparently he downed tools after the League Cup Final.

Which is obviously the case, despite his attempts to cover it up by scoring 4 times in the 6 matches that immediately followed.

Not a massive leap, no. But absolutely no proof nor any inside knowledge over what has actually happened behind the scenes. My assumption is that he's told them he wants out/wants more money etc and the club wasn't going to drag him to Asia while this was going down, given it isn't really in anyones interest to do so until this whole saga has concluded.

For me we have to absolutely rinse Liverpool on the price or keep him until next summer.

It's not just about Isak but the bigger picture.

We've said all window he's not for sale if we fold straight away it makes us look incredibly weak and is basically asking for other clubs to try the same with our other players.

The fact we don't need the funds to strengthen other positions and there's not many striker replacement options about makes it an even easier decision.

Guehi also didn't get his move, so I'm not sure you can hold that up to players as a good path to follow.

Worked out ok for Palace, but not so much for the player.

As far as actual selling price goes, if it were to get to that, I don't really see why we'd entertain anything below 150m. And I'd be pushing 200m.

He is contracted for 3 years, we have plenty of buffer to drag this out.

We have to set the right precedent for the club going forward.

Yes players will want to go to bigger clubs but we have to make sure we do right by the club firstly.

We run the risk of looking easy pushovers and it won't be long before clubs start unsettling the other valuable players we have.
