By being awkward he's trying to drive the price down but that's a bit daft with 3 years left. He's essentially breaching his contract and we should be asking more and more as a result. He and his advisors have manufactured this entire situation and there's no reason whatsoever why Newcastle United should suffer financially because of it. He can come back in, play for a year, or go home on gardening leave. Sweden will need him for the World Cup qualifiers this year, hows he going to cope if he’s not match fit? What happens if they make it to the World Cup and he’s sat out all year?

We value him at £200m we'll sell him for £130m. But we'll see him in court for the other £70m in damages he's caused us.

Simon Jordan made a decent point yesterday about this, in that the PFA should step in if a player fails his obligations under his contract, in the same way they'd be straight after a club that didn't treat a player right, or didn't pay them.

Now he may or may not be injured, but by refusing to travel with the squad, injured or not, on a tour with tons of publicity for the club, with meet and greets and stuff, he's not doing part of what he's paid for, AND, we will still be paying him while he goes on like this.

He has a point, really. Players happy to down tools to try and force a move, but if clubs tried to stop paying them, the PFA would be all over it.

In one of the recent press conferences Howe said something like “I only wish all options were still on the table” - not aware that any reporters followed up by asking which option(s) were not, even though he would have probably said that he could not answer. He usually makes these sort of comments for a reason.

The PFA is a labor union for the players  it would be a breach of their duties to their members if they took the club's side in something like this, no matter how unreasonable the player is being.

My gut feeling with this whole thing is that nothing will happen. He won't play for us until after the September International break, probably as a sub in our first Champions League game somewhere daft. He'll go through the motions until January and then the circus will start again.

If he turned out shite after the contract was signed, we would have absolutely no right to bin him off and get him off the wage bill, similar to the Isaac Hayden situation.

My concern would be that Isak will pick up a few more mysterious muscle strains this season if he's completely checked-out mentally.

 

Imagine being miserable and going on strike because you're earning only 120k a week. These footballers have completely lost touch with reality, makes me fall out of love with this game tbh

I just find the timing of the whole thing makes little sense. Liverpool have signed Ekitike, most other clubs have blown their load by this point, we're more hard-pressed than ever to find a replacement as the market's contracted...why didn't he do this at the start of the window, particularly if he decided this would be his last season well in advance?

I'm not sure if he's actually refused to train/play, I think at this stage it's been a mutual decision

 

However, this can't go on for ages and if we are not selling him or Liverpool are not prepared to pay what it will take then he needs to be told to get back to work

 

If he refuses then we need to start fining him and as extra punishment keep adding to the asking price
