Shearer and Owen were under Sourness not Robson

It was under Robson. Owen wasn’t at the club. It was in 2003. Quote from Michael Owen

Not sure you are as loyal to Newcastle as you make out mate. I distinctly remember you being inches away from signing for Liverpool after Sir Bobby Robson put you on the bench. You tried everything to get out.”

come on lads know your history :p

The club are very smart but also generous running this ‘he’s been badly advised’ line through Craig Hope. Leaves enough leeway to allow players and fans to give him another chance. If he wants one.

Think it’s pretty smart if we’re absolutely annihilating him behind the scenes

You are remembering it wrong. Shearer almost went ti Liverpool (allegedly) when Robson was manager (2003) not Gullit

This was my recollection too, although there's nothing to say he wasn't tempted during the Gullit era as well.

I might be mistemembering it as well, but wasn't it Robson that was trying to sell Shearer to Liverpool after we signed Kluivert then Shearer went to Fat Fred kicking off/cryarseing (delete as applicable) about it and FS then went and over-ruled/undermined (ditto) Robson and refused to sanction the sale.

I've drunk a lot of pints since then so I might have got that completely wrong mind.

I think gdm was right. I do remember rumors around the 2003-2004 season about that.

yeah think Owen was referencing them being mates rather than team mates

Aye, I don't condone violence either *wink wink*

We should definitely let Lascelles, Big Joe and Botman give him a non-violent *wink wink* bollocking.

He'd look like a plate of your culinary delights if those three went to town on him.:cheesy:

Agree, plus Isak deserves a pay rise £300k is what a player like him deserves

He doesn't deserve shit at this point.  He'll be gone after this coming season anyway. Hold him to his current contract until then.  He won't sign any new deal that goes beyond the three years left on his present one. We shouldn't reward him for disrespecting the club by upping his wages, just because we're afraid he won't give 100% otherwise.

I know. It was Owen that brought it to public knowledge after their spat. I literally posted the quote from Owen in the post you just replied to

Joined the following year. I can just about live with that for us, with us hopefully getting a PSG or Barca offer.

What rumblings? There's been one report indicating that some players had tried to convince him to stay, and that he didn't want to. Most likely bullshit.

He shouldn't mend anything unless something factual comes out that he's been trying to engineer a move away. Not to players and especially not to feral fans who has spent the last week or two making up scenarios in their own heads where the situation has beccome progressively worse and worse without really knowing fuck all.

If he starts the first game for us and nobody within the club (including himself) has said anything about him leaving, he deserves the benefit of the doubt and be cheered as any other of our players.

I’ll be happy if he stays but us as fans are on hiding to nothing. We thought the pundits etc talking him up to Arsenal every week was bad. It’ll be a season long Isak to Liverpool tour

But it’s not really ironic, we didn’t sell him to Liverpool. He didn’t say no player should ever want to leave their club.

And also, instead of throwing his toys out the pram, he used Liverpools interest in him to get the club to sack Gullit, then he sacked Liverpool off.

The problem we have next summer is we’ll need to buy 3 new defenders  Not sure yet another strijervsearch is gonna be possible.

Anything interesting?

Basically what he tweeted but added Newcastle weren't even interested in negotiating.  And reiterated that the deal only moves now if Newcastle instigate it.  Also trying to stir the pot of it being untenable for him to stay.

My Point still stands. Shearer didn’t mention anything about his own loyalty. He was talking strictly as a fan, and what the club should do. There was neither anything wrong, nor hypocritical about his comments.

What is wrong is that a barbarian colonial like me has to point out how certain words in the English language should be used correctly (if that commenter is English of course).

*unless I didn’t see the full quotes of course

So if that's the case why not just wait till after selling more players and then just bid the £150 million.

What the hell was the point of the £110 million bid that has now made them look completely stupid?

The bid just feels like a 'we tried' bid to appease Isak's camp more than anything. Reckon they don't want to burn bridges in case they go back in for him in the future.

It's always came across that they don't want him as desperately as he wants them. They were never going to pay the £150m after Ekitike.

They either don't want him as much as everyone thought they did, or they're trying to get him to kick up even more of a fuss at a bid actually being rejected, so a follow up bid of £120m looks more lucrative than it would have before.
