I mean, there’s still a chance he stays and we move forward with a contract offer. That was, apparently, put to him as an option on Monday should we not be able to sign a replacement.

No coincidence (or is it?) that the Sesko thing is coming to a head on the day Eddie is due to speak face to face with Isak for the first time in weeks 🤷‍♂️

For me, there are two ways forward that would be acceptable:

1) We re-integrate him back into the squad and he stays until next summer when his exit can be properly managed. Only worth it if he's willing to knuckle down and not pull a sickie every third game.

2) We work with a PIF-owned Saudi team to give him a route out, accepting a bid in the region of Liverpool's. The difference would be that we add in a decent sell-on percentage, circa 50%. That would prevent Liverpool swooping in to get him cheap next summer from said Saudi team, as they won't want to sell him cheap with a massive sell-on percentage, and even if they do then we still get a total amount in excess of £150m.

Give him those two choices and let him decide.

Doesn't matter what he tells us formally or informally really, he's going to have to stay unless we can sign one elite and one backup striker. Which doesn't look possible at this stage.

Yep. Eddie just has to tell him "Lad, You've left it too late. We can't even replace Wilson, let alone you. So let's get started on this beep test? Else watch your letterbox.".

We genuinely tried. We even offered more than other clubs and still unable to find his replacement. We even have less forward than the end of last season.

If he still ask why don’t let him go, he should just ask God.

As much of a cunt he's been and put a huge dint in our transfer window, we've allowed it and enabled it.

All that time wasted on a replacement, potentially still looking to replace him when we need a CB, 2 CMs and another striker when we could have said get fucked you have 3 years left.

If we pivot to Nicolas fucking Jackson there's no point in getting 150m for Isak anyway because we'll have already thrown half of it down the drain.

It's not even just on us. If Liverpool had moved for him before Wirtz and Ekitike maybe they could have afforded our asking price weeks ago? If they hadn't gazumped us for Ekitike maybe we would have already have his replacement in place? They played the game and unfortunately their actions have led to a situation where we can’t currently let him go.

It'd be suicidal to let him leave at this point, like. Unless he's categorically said he'll never play for us again (a la Wissa, but even that's bollocks imo) then all sides are just gonna have to swallow their pride and get on with the season.

If I had one fucking iota of faith in our ability to sign a striker of high quality it'd be a different story but I don't, so here we are

The more I think about it, the more this all comes down to wages. Not just Isak but for all our struggles.

This is where lack of CEO/Sporting director has really hurt us I think.

We’ve prioritised any money in to maximise transfer fees rather than getting our wage structure up. We will always remain a tier below if we can’t offer our best players the money they can get elsewhere or new players the money offered elsewhere.

Essentially we needed to put like 600k a week additional away for wage rises and not aim for a ‘Šeško’ at 80m but shop at 30m for now. Plug squad depth with loans or frees, whilst short term to keep salary money aside.

Obviously we would still underpay vs the elite but the difference at the moment means Isak won’t be the last big player who has his head turned.

They are all humans, moving somewhere new is a risk. Offer more acceptable wages for a English champs league club and suddenly we have a lot going for us again and can sell the softer project stuff.

We seem to be caught in a no man’s land of bidding high fees for players we can’t then offer big salaries too and at the same time alienating current high performers.

If Liverpool had come in early and big, we could have replaced him without pennypinching on any bids for incoming replacements. They signed four other players before bidding on Isak.

Instead Liverpool are just on a psyop to get him as cheap as possible, at a time when every other non-release clause player is going for a massive fee.

So we should just knock the whole thing off and keep him. He'll be playing for his next deal somewhere, so he'll be motivated.

You are saying put. Either like it, or lump it. Don’t like it, you’ll rot in the reserves. Up to you either way Alex. We’ll revisit this next summer, but for now, act like a professional and get on with your job. Also, sack your cunt of an agent. Thanks.
