While he was there, Liverpool were still waiting 26 years for a PL title. Last season, Isak being fit or not downing tools, or one more depth on the bench, and we would have finished second and have a good chance of pushing on. If real, he should stick to avocado farming. Those 6 clubs might have 1-2 bad seasons, but they can put it right. Liverpool are one of those clubs unfortunately. Agree 100%. I wish we could have made this less about Isak and planned ahead a bit better. I'm hoping we can get Wissa done this week and then at least we can start giving less of a fuck about Isak one way or the other.
Guest
Has any player ever behaved as badly to the club? Owen? But at least he completed his agreed contract (sort of) Cabaye - but he seemed to have better reasons for dicking about? Struggling to think further back. Anyone? I can’t remember hating a players actions so much. Maybe because he is such a special player….

Sat out multiple games to start the season because we rejected a 10m bid for a starting French International. Is also a good rebuttal to all those claiming we should let Liverpool bend us over because "its too far gone". Cabaye came back and played excellent. Keggy_Keagal
I don't really blame anyone for wanting out in the Ashley era. They were told all sorts of shite to sign and were promised we could be used as a stepping stone. The positive from all of this is we've got Howe. When you think what he's done in such a short space of time and with some of the personnel available. We looked focused and pretty much bossed Villa for the majority of yesterday. That's a game we've struggled with away from home, I'm sure the Elanga signing is all about making us as dangerous as possible on the counters, particularly with the Champions League in mind and adding Ramsey in as an unlocker really could help us against the teams that sit in (again, something we've struggled with at times). Let's get this Isak shite put to bed by September (hopefully not to the red shite) and really kick on. Howay The Lads.

Theregulars
There are two things that make this really difficult to come back from, as I see it: 1. He has brazenly contravened a number of Howe’s foundational principles: unity of purpose, tightness of community, mutual respect and constant hard work. I think this is probably more or less the same at any club, but when you’re on the receiving end of the PSR cheating and still competing with the heavyweights then it becomes more important. It’s such a blatant infringement that it doesn’t seem realistic to let him play again anytime soon without players thinking that the rules don’t matter as much as they thought. 2. It shows that he either completely misunderstands - or much more likely doesn’t give any shade of shit about - the mentality of Newcastle as a region. Shying off from work and letting down your mates are not taken lightly on principle in a place that has depended on togetherness and communal solidarity to get through being constantly ignored and unsupported by those with the levers of power. The club is one of the main ways Geordies represent themselves to the outside world, and to have someone so publicly air needless dirty laundry is genuinely a complete disrespect to a region and people that have treated him like a prince. It is morally repugnant to do this to the people who have contributed so much to being what he is. Nonetheless, we also can’t be seen to allow ourselves to be pissed about like this. It’s imperative that we set a robust and lasting precedent that we do not capitulate to such blatantly obnoxious conduct. I also don’t think there is a realistic possibility of replacing him properly now, and it makes little sense to try before the Sporting Director arrives to work with Soapy. All I can see is a stalemate which underwhelms both parties. He may well play for us again but in a game of such fine margins his heart genuinely not being in it may prove problematic on a recurring basis. We will replace him in January or the summer, but every club will know that we are desperate, so on top of the Saudi tax there will also be the needy tax. It just seems so illogical to conclude that he has the character to show the humility and diligence necessary when he’s shown us quite comprehensively what he thinks of us in the grand scheme of things. What a bastard.
Emotic
Correct. Aside from everything else, it has made it stupidly difficult to negotiate for strikers now that all this dirty linen is being aired out in public. "You want our striker? I heard you're desperate!". And then the price just gets hiked a few tens of millions.

He’s thicker than I thought. I think the play from Isak and his agent is just to make it as toxic as possible to the point we let him leave. I think there’s a fair chance we’ll see him and his agent escalate the situation over the next week or so rather than keep quiet. Pretty shocking really that he seemingly has no qualms at all about the absolute shit he is putting his teammates through. Just a complete cunt. I’m very much of the opinion now that taking a significant financial hit to try and fuck him over as best we can is the move. Sign Wissa, then buy another striker at the deadline. After the deadline here passes, tell him is choice is train alone for the season or take a year long loan in Saudi or Turkey before their windows close. gbandit
Aye, I’m all in on destroying his career, even if it comes at a small price to us. It’ll be a way bigger price for him. He’s still got it in his power to try and repair some of the damage. He’s dead to me and many other fans but there’ll be lots that will welcome him back if he scores. He needs to realise that if people don’t meet our valuation (which is more than fair, he’s 100% undervalued at anything under £150m) then his only options are apologising and putting in 100% to attempt a repair job on his image. The only other scenario is a loan that completely suits us. Would be a shite outcome for us unless we were getting a ridiculously high loan fee given we’d just watch his value drop while someone else gets his goals. However, it might be the only option because of how awful his presence would be
Toon1984
For him to come back into the fold, he needs to ‘throw his agent under the bus’. Sack him and then blame him for being very badly advised and do it publicly. I see no other way back.

His "agent" may literally be a Serbian gangster and at 60 years old, evidently looking for his last major payday. He mightn't be able to "sack" the agent. Adrian1881
I don't mind if he leaves at this point but hopefully PIF will not sell him to Livulture FC...We need to make example of ISAK so our players will not repeat this mistake in near or distant future. Could also try to outright sell him to Saudi, if the agent really has that much control over him and wants a payday. I know it might not be ideal as selling to a PIF club can’t be used in our squad cost noncery with UEFA.
