With Isak’s carry on and Liverpool’s carry on we can’t wilt.

In one of those books there’s something about ‘let your enemies save face’.  Liverpool haven’t given us any out. A victory for us is now keeping him for a year and for him to score 11 goals and sell him for £100m next summer. That doesn’t help Liverpool much either with only 4 senior attackers.

If we fold we are done.

It wouldn’t really.  An extra year on his contract meant we could give him another £2m per year at equal amortisation cost. Another £3m is like Lascelles salary money - it’s not a lot. An extra year £2-3m per year in total additional PSR cost is not a lot.

And again - it prevents this situation. Which is ultimately worth a lot more than £2-3m.

Chelsea are idiots mostly. But they were right to give Palmer the new deal and they did so after about 18 months on an already 7 year deal or whatever it was. You pay him his worth and he can’t complain- all the while locking him down to protect his value.

This situation is awful.  Isak has made poor decision after poor decision. But the club has made multiple poor decisions too. Eales and Mitchell the repeat offenders. They didn’t manage the fans or Eddie well im not surprised they didn’t manage the players well either.

I think what Isak and his agent would have demanded would have been closer to 5m on top of his current wage, probably a release clause of some type and certainly no extension. Sorry, but I think the suggestion or even promise by Staveley (supposedly) that a contract improvement was due that summer, not even two years into a six year contract, was a big mistake considering we ended up having to sell Anderson and Minteh that summer to prevent a points deduction. We clearly had very little room to manoeuvre, so if indeed Mitchell postponed those discussions for financial/PSR reasons that seems entirely reasonable to me considering the four additional years Isak already had to go on his current deal. Maybe the delivery/explanation was wrong and set the stage for this whole ordeal, but I’m more skeptical about promising the new deal than on postponing it at that stage.

You’ve had a tough summer, has to be said. Hope you can turn it around before the international break

Be glad when this window is shut. It was supposed to be exciting

Two players scored in the Final

One will forever be a hero and loved by the fans,

The other is dead to me

At the end of last season I thought that Isak would one day belong in the pantheon of Newcastle greats, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Sir Bobby, Shearer, Eddie, Bruno, Keegan etc as some of the greatest figures who I've had pleasure of witnessing in our colours.

In just a few short weeks he belongs in the septic tank of depravity along with Ashley, Ranger, Owen, Bruce and Pardew.
