You'd think Isak now will need to respond with evidence of what he was promised, by who, and when that was. His message has been called lies by the club.

Regardless there was talk that we had tried to discuss a new contract at some point this summer and his agent walked away. Meaning even if there was some verbal agreement to discuss it, then it was met.

If there was some evidence it would have been presented from the outset, like Wissa’s agreement with Brentford.

They’ve went with it as their angle now as it’s the only one where they don’t look completely shameless. He’s said absolutely nothing of substance, said he’s sick of people pushing their own version of events and then failed to provide absolutely anything tangible of what he thinks those events are.

It’s nothing to do with promises made or anything to do with Newcastle, it’s that he wants to join Liverpool. That’s the only thing.

I reckon we’ll get a climb down from his position soon. Not because of contrition or genuine acceptance that he’s behaved like a clown but because he has zero other options. The problem then is that we have a player on our hands who’s mentally checked out, who resents us and who the other lads don’t trust. Very hard situation for Howe to manage going forward. We need this wanker gone as soon as possible really but how we do it and get the value we need is beyond me

I still think he goes mind - I think he’ll get Wissa and another and off the rat trots!

Can you see them paying 150 million now though? They havent came anywhere close to it and its been about 6 weeks now

Quite the opposite I feel, nowhere else to go for Isak, that's his 'ace' card played and the club have shut it down.

Hopefully.

One last throw of the dice I feel - a formal transfer request, and a 125 mil bid from Liverpool. Tomorrow or Friday just to disrupt our game prep.

If that's shut down, then it's game over for him this window.

But if Liverpool are clear about our conditions, the most critical being that we find a replacement of equal calibre first - then they know not to bother. Here's hoping.

We love a saga don’t we!

Does Isak now officially hand in a transfer request? He must be losing a canny wedge if he hasn’t handed it already. I’m assuming winning a cup and qualifying for the Champions League will have achieved huge bonuses.

He really has made a royal fuck up of it. I bet he’s wishing he could roll that clock back a bit and not released that statement.

Just wondering how that plays out.

A "meeting" followed by word or a "nice discussion" or an "understanding from both sides"...

For him to play again, he will need a statement of some sort to the fans because hes going to receive so much abuse, hes going to want to try and dampen that somewhat.

You know what's worst, the kind of guy Howe is, he will try and protect him from the fans in someway.

If a player hands in a transfer request, do the unpaid loyalty bonuses get added to PSR? [emoji38]

I said it a few weeks back, but I don't mind Isak going so long as at least half the Liverpool fans think the fee is too high. My guess is 150M or close, a fee that is clearly higher than the one they happily paid for the German Maddison. I don't trust Isak to offer us much on the pitch any more. Selling cheap, to a club desparate for a forward and in a summer of overpriced transfers, would have lasting implications. Saudi gave Liverpool a fuckton for Nunez. They can add it to the money they pay us or no deal.

This is so poor from Isak man.

You were a hero here lad. He doesn’t have a strong enough leg to stand on.

Worst part of it for me. His legacy would have been legendary status, and he's shown that none of that matters to him, only the money.

He gets told to sack his agent, everyone blames the agent, he signs a new 4 year contract on more money but with a release clause. In a few weeks this all blows over

That is the target end result and I think the club have a good chance of landing it.

What are we speculating as the conditions for a sale:

I think signing a striker and being offered £140m+ could be foreseen.

So I suspect the condition that can’t be foreseen is that we sign as Isak-level replacement before he leaves. That ain’t happening.

I would think currently from the owners perspective not Liverpool!

Eddie will do what's best for the team, as always.

I cant see him sacking his agent off the back of this or him backing down, gut feeling is he sulks and does his own thing now until January and tries to engineer a move away again so he doesnt completely ruin his world cup chances

Agree, I think he'll accept he has no other option but to play another season here. He's damaged morale at the club but I think once the window closes and he's accepted it, we'll be fine. He'll want to play, and Howe is the right man to get the rest of the squad on board with bringing him back into the fold.

There might be a few twists and turns before Sep 1st but this is how I see it playing out, and the club statement suggests as much.

Don't think it's as difficult as it seems, Levy's done it countless times simply by being resolutely stubborn regardless of anything. He got Bayern to stump up £100m for a 30 year old who desperately wanted out and had a year left on his contract

Just quoted our statement with no additional comment.

I'm absolutely astonished he just copy and pasted the statement and didn't take the opportunity to add his own spin

 Something along the lines of:

"Regardless of that whatever nonsense that statement was spouting, Alexander Isak's intentions remain clear. Liverpool ❤️. He only wants Liverpool. Liverpool Football Club. L.I.V.E.R.P.O.O.L. Anfield is his destiny. They will be together one day, and it will be beautiful 😍 #YNWA #TeamIsak #FreeAlex"

Isak is Sweden’s forward no matter what happens. He’s not fighting for a place in that squad ffs.

Loan him abroad protecting his value, provided he keeps up his form and sell next summer.
