Probably also assurance a new contract is there to reflect his importance if he wants to stay.

Lee Ryder asking if Isak asked to leave before the end of last season and Eddie saying they had conversations about it. Might explain his half arsed displays in last 2 games which were crucial (in fact I recall he was 'injured' away to Arsenal second last game?). What a prick if he did indeed down tools in such an important time would have cost us champions league if Villa had won at old Trafford 😡

 

There were loads of time during games after cup final where we said on here Isak has been total shit and saying he has to be injured etc. The reality is that Isak might have checked out, unforgivable if true

the reporter asked him a closed or yes/no question and i think he reluctantly answered yes he was made aware Isak’s desire to leave around end of season (if not even earlier). He was put to the spot and the directness of that question made it hard to dodge or navigate around

Seems Liverpool fans truly realise now that signing Etikite was the shut up shop moment for us. I doubt any of them realised we were close to getting him BEFORE Isak 3 years ago.

 

Our last attempt was Sesko. 

 

You cant say to Isak we didn't try to replace him... we have. And its not worked out..now that all the top clubs have their striker situations sorted, its more than likely he gets sold in Jan or next Summer after a bumper contract and release clause and we get our new striker next year. 

 

I see Bayern calling/Barca/RM next season. And we try to get the next up and coming talent. But we need to be ON IT.

 

I dont think anyone begrudges him a move to a top top club with astronomical wages - but it has to suit us. And this summer, it does not. It leaves us short. He should understand that.

People need to stop assuming he was downing tools, guy was ragged as the 2nd half of season went on. Why we are trying to pursue an established talent for the 2nd striker spot. 

 

From connecting the dots as best as you can I probably see it as:

 

• Isak informed Howe he's open to leaving this summer and giving someone he respects an early heads up so it doesn't disrupt (lol) plans too much and it's not a shock when bid comes (likely as his agent has said Liverpool and Arsenal are both in the market for a top end striker)
• We then knowing a bid could come in for Isak, look to prioritise a more top end striker in case that does happen, so move for Pedro missed out. Then move for Etitike, miss out to Liverpool. 
• This then is when Isak agent comes into the play, likely pissed that Liverpool have moved for Etitike first and not Isak (with Arsenal going elsewhere)
• Liverpool make a play, we reject, all kicks off.
• We meantime now are looking at two strikers, one as a Wilson replacement in case Isak stays, but also a top end one in case we have to sell Isak.
• Howe and Isak talking, things all good between them and aim to keep it behind closes doors.
• Miss out on Sesko, Wissa ongoing.
• Isak agent makes a play that promises were broken (no promises were made), played out now in public.
• Howe / club / players want Isak to stay, door firmly open, and unless things suddenly fall into place over next 72 hours (we have two strikers lined up, Liverpool offer big for Isak), he stays and he's reintegrated.

It looks messy on paper but it's really not, there's a set of requirements for us to allow Isak to go that all need to be met and we've not met one of them, in fact you could say we're on -1 due to the inability to replace Wilson yet. 

 

I think Howe is inferring that the conclusion is Isak will be told in no uncertain terms that he's going nowhere, there was a remote chance it could happen if those conditions were met but now its too late, we've exhausted our options and he'll have to stay, now its up to him to reintegrate himself into the squad.

Just watched the bit where he said 'Coming to an end soon', and in the context of the question asked, it doesn't come across as bad as Ryder makes it seem.

He could almost be alluding to the fact the window shuts soon, so it'll be sorted either way by then.

Just seen a bit where Howe confirmed there were discussions with Isak 'before the end of the season' about his future.

He seemed to nod/confirm Isak stated his intention to leave then, before correcting to 'discussions were held, but will remain private'.
