There’s absolutely nowt happening at the moment. Isak won’t be involved if he’s still here until after the transfer window has closed and he’ll only go if we get replacements in and receive an acceptable offer.

It’s been that way since we rejected the 1st bid. Liverpool have been skirting around the issue quite clearly feeding a narrative which keeps the discussion front and centre of almost every transfer speculation. It’s only now dying done as actual deals are getting done.

how could eddie ever trust him on the pitch again? how could his teammates?

Luis Suarez had one of his best seasons after a summer spent pining for Arsenal. He scored 30-odd goals.

2021/22 at Spurs was almost a mirror of our current situation - big bid turned down, talk of a "gentleman's agreement", player refusing to train or play. Kane scored 27 goals for Spurs that season, then 32 the one after that.

I just don't get what the plan is here.

He can only move to Liverpool if they bid for him and apart from the one derisory bid they haven't. And also they spent fuck loads on Ekitike.

Wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool are stringing them along a bit here. Win win for them. They've massively disrupted a rival, and figure maybe they get Isak on the cheap out of it. But wouldn't be surprised if they have no intention of actually matching his valuation.

By Sep 1st Isak will be desperate to play, once it hits home Liverpool aren't stumping up enough cash, he'll come cap in hand himself to Eddie I reckon. A new deal will get sorted with a release clause which will give him a good shot at leaving next summer. He has given it his best shot to get his move, but once it's over he'll get on with it and play the season. He'll have to play at 100% otherwise Howe will just keep picking Wissa instead.

If he wants Liverpool asap.  He might want to get his crooked cunt of an agent to speak to Liverpool and ask them to put another bid in.  One that is actually somewhere near his value and asking price this time.  Not one that gets laughed out of the room and dismissed after 5 seconds.

A tale as old as time. Well one that has played out just like this before.

Or pop in his transfer request as a statement of intent!

So just thinking more on the wait till jan with 1 new striker and Gordon.

Other than what others have said everyone knows summer is better value than Jan which target that hasn't already moved is likely to be more available in Jan than this summer? If there is  no new emerging ideas then what's the point of waiting.

To me it just seems like a stupid idea.

having the Isak cash before a replacement is just begging for extortion from other clubs.

Gerrard, Rooney, Tevez etc.

It’s not even the going on strike and not training for me. It’s the (if true) announcing to EH he wants to leave 2 weeks before season ends (we lost last 2 games) and his half arsed performances from the cup final onwards. Major trust issues with him

I think there are two key differences that make this more than normal agitation -

1. In all those situations you at least had a chairman/dof in place who would have had some level of relationship with the player and their agent, and thus an ability to work things out. We don't and mitchell has fucked things up beyond all recognition. As much as I hate isak that fucker deserves a softball bat to the groin too.

2. In none of them - at least that I could find, happy to be wrong about it - could I find anything like a definitive statement of "i will never play for this club again" like isak's camp has issued. Or at least we think they've issued; I do trust Ornstein, Downie, et al wouldn't make up such a severe quote out of whole cloth.

I don't know the future but I think instead of ever playing for us again it's more likely that he'd swallow his pride on the loyalty bonus, put in an official transfer request, and we get a deal done extremely late

Agreed about the trust issues but I do think they can/have to be overcome, personally can't see any other outcome at the moment.

Don't believe Isak said anything of the sort 2 weeks before seasons end.

There are no direct Isak quotes as far as I’m aware. Plausible deniability.

We have owners who is suspect would take this as a personal affront. As I said earlier, I wouldn’t be extremely surprised if they don’t, because cultures aren’t monolithic. But them taking a hard line is more likely than not.

in the end, it’s just words issued to the press. Isak and his camp have much less control than they are letting on. Leaking to the media while the club stays silent is telling to me. One side is likely flinching.

He’s on strike. He’s not playing. He’ll be fined. Don’t think we need a quote from Alex

This is when the book 'Never Split the Difference' comes in handy. Not the be all end all, but some occasional great insight from a former FBI negotiator. Isak's position here is actually pretty weak. The club should seriously just alienate him and his camp for a bit.

Agreed. Great book.

yeah but plausible deniability isn't a panacea - and it usually requires more layers of bureaucratic separation than the zero of "football player and his agent/camp" to be believable

Like we are doing. Eddie wrote that book man.

On the first point, the main relationship is between Howe and Isak. Whatever is happening at board/Director level pales into insignificance when it comes to brining a player back in from the cold.

There may not have been an official statement from Kane (although there hasn't been one from Isak either...) but he didn't need to - he literally didn't play. He wasn't in the squad for their first game, came off the bench in the second then started the third.

There's got to be at least someone within Liverpool that's looking at his behaviour and thinking "yeah, erm, we can't be signing that like."
