How this is expressed in the accounts is a different matter but the fee for him only comes once in the accounts the subsequent annual costs of the two of them still need to be paid for year on year either through income or sales.

However still struggling to get my head around accounting side if you stretch the fees paid for both big nick over 5 years and wissa over 4 years respectively the Isak money will more than cover year 1 of their amortised costs maybe year 2 and year 3 his fee won't cover the other years so would need more revenue or more sales so its not a magic money tree to tap into more spending potential. 

 

My brain clearly is outside of its comfort zone here so I will shut up 🤣

This Isak deal puts us in a good spot for the next few transfer windows. We've got some breathing room now. We've got plenty of cash, but we needed that headroom. And don't forget, we've got money from Longstaff and Kelly too.

 

We all knew at some point in our journey a big sale was needed in order to get to the next level, to improve the squad.

Isak was the most obvious candidate. I just thought maybe Isak would go to Barca  next summer for 120 million after scoring over 30 goals, thus leave as a legend, and welcomed back to tyneside anytime, fondly remembered and highly thought off.

It gets complicated...

 

You need to start by factoring in the save mf on Isaks depreciation and wages which is somewhere between £15m and £20m.

 

This is a permanent thing, without any sales profit our P&L has this headroom added to it (when compared to 24/25)

 

For the sale you can put £30m profit/revenue for 25/26, 26/27 and 27/28. 

 

Under the current PSR calcs you get some benefit for 5 years (£30m, £60m, £90m, £60m, £30m to offset the losses), under UEFA rules it's £30m a year for 3 years - the rest of this is UEFA rules as simpler

 

So that's £45m+£50m a year in the P&L for 3 years. The Wissa and Wolt (great cop duo name) costs are about £30m-£35m so there is plenty of 'money' left for 3 years.

 

Year 4 and 5 there is £20m on the P&L (no Isak cost) compared to 24/25 so a shortfall on Wissa and Wolt that needs filling. Likely scenario is we flip Wissa to Saudi at this point

And if anyone wants to feel even better about replacing Isak with Woltemade + profit + PSR accounting flexibility, imagine if we had not sold and had an unfit, unhappy Isak leading the line for us most of the year with Wissa out injured/off to AFCON. Would have been disastrous.

Amortisation is the key word. Most of our deals were over 5 years this summer so that 250 odd million that we spent will only cost us around £50m each season.

 

Theoretically, we could still spend another £150m in January and still be well under the PSR limit.

 

But we will need another big sale unless our financials drastically improve.

 

We will lose another “purple” at some point.

Michael Owen has been proven wrong on his Alexander Isak Liverpool theory with talks in private over his fitness emerging. The 26-year-old has played just over 300 minutes for his new club and despite picking up a goal and assist, he has looked a little off the pace.

Isak was great because Eddie made him that way, Woltemessi will be the same if he takes on board the words of Eddie.
