So if you add on the extra for the fact strikers historically always go for more as they are the ones that scored the goals, plus the fact there is a lack of top level strikers in Europe these days. 

 

It really isn't an unfair fee. If anyone is saying so in the media it is out of pure resentment that he plays for us and not one of the sky darlings. 

 

 

 

 

Hypothetical scenario: let's say Arsenal would have bought Isak for 60m from Sociedad, would the press be angling for him to move to City or Liverpool for under 100m? Would they fuck!

 

Newcastle United are still not getting the respect we deserve. Praying we qualify for CL and manage to bring in some more quality, so we can continue to improve and really challenge for silverware, while some of these so-called "top six" languish in midfield. I'm convinced, even despite all their "fair play" protection measures, one day soon there will be no ignoring or belittling us anymore, and the talk will be about how it's a shame their best players aren't playing CL or competing for titles every year.

They are probably better off throwing in a lowball £80m bid for Haaland and see how that goes down - and anyway, he's much more suited to Arteta ball.

 

Rice could just ping corners in to the big man all day long while rest of the team continue to hop about like Morris Dancers.

I don’t think Isak will push for a move, he clearly has an affinity for the club and fans. Like a few players with the emergence of Tonali’s presence he’ll know we’re close to going up another level and becoming a seriously good team. 
 

The elephant in the room will always be champions league qualification however and how or whether that destabilises the squad if we don’t get it.  Increased wages and a tilt at league title is always a factor for players deciding on what to do next.

I still can't get over how disorganised and decidedly average he made two top level CB's look.  

 

Saliba and Gabriel constantly not knowing whether to push up or drop.  Saliba getting roasted a couple of times one v one, which basically never happens.  They were in a panic every time he got on the ball, as were the crowd.  

 

There is a reason why Isak is the only player I can consistently remember giving VVD a hard time.  VVD is IMO, the best CB in the league and one of the Premier League greats.  But he clearly hates playing against Isak.

Our midfield and Isak is why we can beat Liverpool in a final if we get there

It's difficult to make comparisons between great players of different eras as the game has evolved so much, particularly in fitness levels and tactical precision, but both reached the very top of their profession.

It's debatable whether Shearer would have the movement and fluidity to make him a top striker today, and equally so whether Izak would have had the physicality required to be a top striker when Shearer was but both are (were) the right player at the right time.

Apparently he turned down a move to Real Madrid earlier in his career.

I think his move to Dortmund not fully working out has put him off just jumping to bigger names clubs.

I think he needs the right environment around him to succeed, and going to Arsenal or elsewhere may not be beneficial to him.

Agreed - Eddie Howe is playing to Isaks strengths and Isak is also perfectly suited to the PL.

Maybe not but at 25 when ultimately if we don’t get champions league offers will start to come in with options for the “next step”. Finances in modern day football always play a big factor too. 
 

FWIW I agree, the club is on the cusp of going to the next level and there’s a really tight bond amongst the players (well it seems so anyway). It feels like things are back on track again and I just hope that we can get a champions league spot to really kick on again to the next level.

Isak has improved so much since joining us imo.  I admit I didn't see him in Spain at all, but his progress from when he first joined to how he is now is enormous.

My point is that Howe is a big factor in that and if we need to replace Isak at some point because we are not "there yet", I am somewhat confident that Howe will find a solution (provided he will get a replacement he approves off).

Amusing that Arsenal fans are so blinkered by their weird love in for Isak, that despite being the biggest moaners in the world football, they didn't seem too bothered about his nudge in the build up to goal.

 

If Joelinton had been involved in a potential foul in the build up to the goal, like he was at last years win at SJP, they would be releasing statements after the game and threatening strike action.

Fuck FFP man.

 

We still have massive issues and it looks like we need to sell to reinvest (unless you know what). Even if we qualify for the CL, we have the same problem. We probably need to spend £150-200m on the existing squad to be able to compete in the CL and league at the same time. That seems impossible to do (unless you know what).

 

Villa are struggling because they don't have the squad.
