Nationality is a construct and, for me at least, completely meaningless. It’s human nature to want to belong to something, but I’d much rather it be something that I’ve chosen for myself than the bit on a map that I just happened to be born in.

Basically what I was trying to say

Have I not got more in common with a Mechanic in Toulouse than I have with Prince Charles ?

Instead of protest working (as if…) you could take the extra bank holiday and go on a Lautrec to Toulouse to find out?

(I can’t help myself; I can only apologise…)

For what it's worth I'd never boo the national anthem. I find grown men booing a bit odd, but if that's how people feel let them crack on.

That said, the way this country encourages and celebrates grotesque wealth, whist happily seeing the most vulnerable in society suffer is nothing to be proud of. Neither is the passive acceptance of everything that made this country something to be proud of being ran into the ground.

We have a cost of living crisis, where people can't afford to eat, yet many millions of tax payers money will be spent on a state funeral and Charles' Coronation. I think the people have every right to demonstrate their feelings. Like it or not, the Royal family are emblematic of the ever dividing class system in Britain.

I take it out of principal then you will be not taking the bank holiday given to you next Monday or subsequent day in Lou if you have to work on Monday and any extra pay associated with working the bank holiday

I’m a republican and I’ll probably take the bank holiday. The reason being if my company observes it then there won’t be anyone at work to give me work for the day. I have a key and I could turn up, but there would literally be no one there and I’d be paid for my time regardless. In fact as I have been told that there would be no work that day, I think I may get into trouble by actually going into work. Me opening up and going to work may well be classed as a security risk.

How does that work in your simplistic take it or leave it and I’ll judge you for your actions’ view?

As for the ‘It’s respecting your country’ statement. They said the exact same thing during WW1 when soldiers who were suffering from PTSD were lined up and shot. Maybe that’s what you want, a strict follow our line or get shot order.

Sounds an awful lot like fascism people with your opinions generally have a very strong and visible view against.

I'll say this as a committed republican and dyed-in-the-wool democratic socialist that I'd still find it pretty bad craic to actively boo during the national anthem, and really bad craic to disrupt a minute's silence / applause for Liz Windsor.  I wouldn't be clapping if it is an applause, though.  Booing is for pantomimes and really bad musicals.

The anthem is a right old load of shite, mind.  A tiresome dirge and completely inappropriate as an anthem.  Jerusalem all the way for me; it is the only national song which can be sung at Labour Party Conference and the Last Night of the Proms (AKA the Tory Party Karaoke).  Land of Hope and Glory can fuck right off mind; right old load of imperialist shite.

I have loads of opinions, though it would be good if next week's football is actually on so that you all didn't have to read them here.

We'll just be staying in the concourse. Extra pint and delayed pre-match piss.

God save the Queen/King has to be one of the worst anthems mind. Lyrics are wank and the melody is boring as shite.

It's horrendous. A national anthem should celebrate what it means to be British (or English for that matter), not glorify the unearned birthright of our head of state.

And if there was a god I'd be asking him to save a fair few people before he got to the monarch.

Who does it benefit [apart from SPORTbible of course] to report this?

What is the response they hope for?

I'd imagine people would want to know why the games were called off and the above is (or one of) the reasons.

Many people/places do hold the same view like, it's just that booing people who have died is cringey as fuck. You can sort of let Liverpool off with it because of Hillsbourgh though.

And we definitely shouldn't be singing the national anthem at Anfield [emoji38]

Is anybody booing anybody who died? I mean what would be the point?

I agree the idea of singing the national anthem at Anfield, in order to get them to do something that damages all of us is stupidity.

And the British Bulldog used Rule Britainnia.  WWF should be the source of all national anthems.

Personally, I think we should come out to Ted DiBiase’s old theme at SJP just to really piss off the press.

Do you think people who aren't Christians should work on public holidays?
