Salah has sustained a higher level within the league for a much longer period of time. It's just recency bias from someone not old enough to have seen the players talked about in their prime. Salah's got the longevity at an extremely high level in his favour. Ronaldo needed another couple of seasons at the level he was at in 08/09 to take the place.
