Group E: Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan (Japan and Spain qualify)

Is it stupid that they aren't providing the clear footage yet?, Yeah.  But even on the shots we have you can see it's not over the line.  The worst image they have you just have to line up the edge of the touchline with the edge of the ball above and you can see the ball is overhanging the line.  Souness sounds like he's about to launch a probe into russian interference or something FFS.

Ironically this is the first time I’ve seen VAR work like I want it to work. The call on the field stands unless there is clear and irrefutable evidence to overturn it (which there wasn’t in this instance). It ended up being perfect execution, other than how long it took.

Wasn;t the on field call it had gone out ???

This is very true, but a lot of pundits don’t seem to realise the rise of football in non-European/South American countries

As of the last five years or so for Korea and probably a bit longer for Japan, I feel like both countries have put in place a steady production line of decent-ish players coming out of the youth levels. A lot of them stay in Asia because it's not worth it to leave the comforts of home to sit on the bench, but most of the NT-level players could do a job for lower-tier squads in Europe. Not relying on one-off outliers like Park and Son to carry a bunch of dross anymore.

Son is basically a shell of himself this WC and we look about as good as we have in the last decade or so. Results just aren't going our way.

It's not unlucky if they underperform their xG, it means their strikers are shit; which they are.

Nah, they are not shit. You play that group again with the same chances and they go through 9 times out of 10.

Fortunately we exist in the universe where they didn't win and are in fact shit as they underperformed against expectations.

What a half. Must be one of the most dramatic in World Cup history? Would have been even better if Costa Rica had somehow held on and sent Spain out. At HT it felt like the most routine boring outcome was inevitable.

Japan are such mad fuckers like, beating Germany and Spain in the manner they did, yet losing to Costa Rica.
