Most team do it. Not much the ref can do really, they can’t send the keeper off for 30 seconds.

I mean the biggest punishment they can offer is it all goes on as extra time. So while a keeper injury might get you breathing space/time to regroup/ unsettle the flow/frustrate the opposition/ allow tactical instruction to get out. It can lead to a big chunk of extra time which as we know can bite you in the arse.

I think the Pope thing has alway been about letting Howe give tactical instructions rather than wasting time. That and occasionally to break the opposition’s rhythm if they are getting on top.

Just felt more like our old proper selves last two matches with the Big and Little Joe, the shithousing, the press and intensity. TBH, I just do really like that high octane football. There isn't really going to be a right sided attacker who will get a sniff when the Joe's are fit and flying.

Arsenal came here with the mentality that they had to out-shithouse us in essence. Whenever they do that, they fail. If they stuck to playing their football, they'd be more likely to beat us.

 

It's all because they absolutely dropped their bait when we beat them 2-0 in Eddie's first season. We've then played them numerous times and know they'll shite themselves if we get under their skin.

I find it kind of amusing that to this day we get seen as the pillar of time wasting in the league, when in actual fact we are one of the quickest to get the ball back into play in the league:

Thing is we haven’t actually been that shithouse, not to previous levels, and yet just because we’re winning it’s “dark arts Newcastle” being trotted out again. Headloss all owa the place for very minimal shithousing. Even Arsenal fans couldn’t really muster up enough care to boo Dubravka for taking time on gk’s (spoiler, he wasn’t taking any longer than should be expected).

Saw stats for time a corner is taken specifically (cannot remember where), Arsenal taking a good 40+s on their corners

Think we need to be careful as and when we do it- refs are certainly aware of the narrative being pushed and happy to play 10-12 minutes (spurs) and probably go to their pocket quicker than they would for other teams- thought Tinos booking last night was extremely harsh.

Agreed. We should be thinking about preemptively fighting this with statistics re: time wasting etc. as refs are weak enough to be easily prejudiced.

Need Eddie to highlight these facts in his pre game interviews to get it into the refs mind we’re not the shithouses rivals claim we are.

As did their keeper in fairness. But the 2 minutes added at the end of the 10 was because we were taking the piss.
