In case anyone actually needed this reality check, the difference in fixture run-in for each of the clubs involved in the race for the European spots is, you know, pretty much ineligible. All 20 clubs play the other 19 clubs twice, home and away, across an entire season.

 

That said, seeing what I've always said as visualised stats made my heart grow three sizes: 

 

 

That said, in the event that the run-in fixture nerds' are in the right and I'm in the wrong, they should be happy to see Fulham, Villa and Chelsea have "worse" run-ins in their fixtures than we do. On the other hand, Forest and Bournemouth have relatively much "easier" run-ins, with Brighton being just about on-par with us.

Still everything to play for here, lest we forget. Just need to figure out a way to protect our defence until we can take one of our opportunities.

And all the sides we are competing with for top 5 are in winnable cup competitions so may take their eye off the ball for some games.

City winning or a draw earlier would have been preferable. Keep thinking Forest will get caught out and fall away. But fair fucking play to them Can’t see Forest dropping out the top 5 now and City the same. So it’s just stupidly tight for that last place or two, at best.

We've been poor so frequently this season, if we don't get Europe we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

On days like today when all results seem to go against us I understand why people feel down but there's still a lot of games to go

 

There will be weekends when it goes our way so think it's a bit soon to say we won't qualify

 

What's important is that we need to go on a run of wins, do that and I think others will drop enough points

Would take a Europa League spot at this point. It would give us another realistic shot at a trophy with the added bonus of a champions league spot at the end of it.

 

I'd go so far as to say, if we're in the Europa League, we should make winning it our number 1 priority next season.

Mad how quickly people disasterise. Everyone in this group we're in is patchy this season. The tightness of it all means just back to back wins can elevate you. We've got a relatively kind run of fixtures between now and the end of April; let's just see where we are then.

I saw someone upset about Brighton's luck getting an injury time winner yesterday and how such results might cost us Europe. But these things even out over a season, if you end up 9th in the table after 38 games, that's the position you have earned.

Players need to step up and start performing, too many are out of form and that includes big names. After West Ham we have “on paper” winnable games against Brentford, Leicester, Man U and Palace. I feel like those 4 games before going to Villa will make or break us after the cup final and how we are mentally. If we knuckle down and get on a run in those games I’m actually confident of us getting 5th. 
 

Beating West Ham tomorrow would be massive for us getting Europe and for confidence before the final.

Aye. I keep repeating myself, but it's worth looking at how we end our seasons under Howe.

 

I'm confident we'll go on another points-heavy run at some point in the last 10 games, and that will more than likely get us into Europe next season. If that doesn't happen, then by all means start to panic.

Yeah; I think we will too. I don't want to "get it out the way," but being post-Cup final will help too. If we win, we've got Europe and we play with freedom. If we lose, it's done and the league is the sole focus. It's a shame we've apparently not really taken it in our stride but I'll happily accept ropey league form if it means we've got another 90-minute shot at silverware.

Something else to bear in mind, despite our huge injury blows to Hall and Botman, we were probably more effective defensively in our first season under Howe when we had neither. We relied on Targett and Burn and we were super hard to break down. This time round we've got Livramento as well who can play either side if needed.

 

I think we might need to tweak our tactics a bit, as these players don't suit the press so much, but they can definitely defend if given some protection.

We’re more than capable of remaining unbeaten in the next 5 league games and for our aspirations should be aiming for 3 or 4 wins too. If we’re going to go on a run then it needs to start now

Yes but FA Cup winners also get a Europa League spot

 

If the FA Cup winners already qualify via the league then 7th will get the spot

 

So ideally we need a team 6th and above to win the FA Cup

Only Man City and Forest left right?

 

from here I can’t see either side finishing below 6th.  I think they will be top 4. 
 

It’s Villa I can see winning the Fa cup.

Said this in the match thread for tomorrow. Everything is possible if we can string some wins together. After a full season every team will be where they deserve to be.
