The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Conference League (at least)

Recommended Posts

I get the comments about better squad depth with certain teams around us, but this is our last week coming up with three games in a week, we move to once a week for the rest of the season, while all other teams around us have 1-2 cups they’re still involved in to add distractions and congestion. If we keep our team fit I think our first 11 is better than all bar maybe City’s from those in 3rd - 7th, which I think we forget at times, and it’s not unreasonable to expect 9 or 10 of the 11 to be fresh to play one game a week for the rest of season. It’s this next week that is absolutely key to not obtaining injuries and still wracking up points.

My advice, stop with the what ifs and maybes and just take one game at a time. It's less stressful on the old ticker.

For me it's still just fun to look at all the what-ifs as we compete much higher up the table.

The only thing that adds stress is the fact that the difference between 5th and 6th could be a true crossroads for the near term future of the club.

Every game is a cup final for us now. If we win them all 4th is in the bag. It's a big ask, but we can do it.

CL football next year on top of getting a trophy is such a dream of a season. Makes the summer window huge for additions. If we can secure same quality levels as Tonali/Botman/Bruno/Isak etc. for positions we need strengthening then next season could be far better prepared to compete more consistently.

5 wins from the remaining does it, will be tough but very achievable

8 would have us 3rd, possibly even 2nd

This is my take on it. We win our games and CL takes care of itself regardless of what any other clubs do.

Am I right in thinking Palace next Wednesday is our game in hand?

Also, I read today that we've picked up 33 points in the last 15 games, only Liverpool have done better. Quite astonishing since I feel like we can do quite a bit better.

Yes, that's the game that was moved for the cup final.

15 games includes our genuinely excellent form in Dec/Jan. I think it's fair to say we haven't looked quite as convincing in Feb/Mar but you can also point to the League Cup as the reason.

We're THIRD in the form table for the last 5 games. Palace are FIRST.

We're FIFTH in the form table for the last 10 games. Palace are SECOND.

February was a bad month for us, but we only played one Prem game in March so can't take any form judgement from that month really.

Rough timeframes. Since Jan 18:

  • Bournemouth (h) - thoroughly dismantled
  • Southampton (a) - good; worst team in the league
  • Fulham (h) - awful second half
  • City (a) - no good
  • Forest (h) - excellent most of first half; poor-ish second half
  • Liverpool (a) - lackluster (for a legitimate reason)
  • West Ham (a) - solid
  • Brentford (h) - ok, not great
  • Leicester (a) - good but they are awful

We've gotten enough results to look good in the form table, but the performances haven't been as good as the nine games (all comps) before that. But five of those, including three of the defeats, are firmly in LC excuse territory so you can draw lots of conclusions.

If there's one thing worrying me it's that we haven't played a good 90 minutes at home in the league in almost two months. If we can show that next week then I'll be wondering whether we can get 3rd more than if we'll get CL.

I hear you but do the same for the teams around us.

Likes of Man Utd / Chelsea as home games are better for us weirdly. Seem always bring A game to those, as shown with Gordon home stats against those type of sides.

Palace (H) midweek is my biggest fear. Just has all the hallmarks of a drab game , where we go behind and chase losing all shape.

Think it's about time to let this shit go tbh. how thin skinned do we want to be?

We are a massive club. Of course other fans were going to have a laugh at us going down.

I despised them for years.

Over the last few though, that's softened. While I still don't like Villa, I know longer hate them.

Still can't bring myself to want them to win the CL mind. Or any other English club.

These are our rivals really.

So does that mean

1-5: CL

6-7: Europa (subject to Palace not winning the FA Cup)

8: Conference

Looks that way so we've basically got Europa now at least bar a collapse.

Villa could win the FA cup and finish 8th
