"Victory over Bournemouth here on Saturday would give Eddie Howe's side a perfect ten and move them on to 41 points from 22 games - matching their total at that stage in the 2022/23 season, when they went on to secure Champions League football."

21 games played, 55% of the season. 14 points above Spurs, 12 above Man Utd, 7 above Brighton, 3 above both Villa and MAN CITY, 1 above Chelsea. Only three points below third place (occupied by a team we have beaten twice this season). Only five points below second place (also occupied by a team we have beaten twice this season). We are so finishing fourth or above. Latter is my guess.

The thing is...this run has come at a time where others have dropped off and gone backwards.

So two things need to happen, all those teams need to carry on struggling and not go on a good run themselves and we need to keep winning constantly. I feel both are unlikely so it's going to get really tight for the remainder of the season and we need to handle the pressure and any distractions (league cup) well.

Our first 11 is excellent but it's fragile as fuck and only takes one or two out for things to take a turn. Saw signs of us dropping off against Wolves and on another night I feel we could have been punished so I hope it was just a little blip and players were pacing themselves as they will need to do.

22/23 we started strong , dropped off around the league cup period and then once we lost the final, sorted ourselves out and then went on another monster run.

This time we have had our rough spell earlier but now we need to sustain our good run for a lot longer which is gonna feel like a long old road if it's this same first 11 that need to carry us the distance.

That's why any kind of fresh blood in January could be a massive extra shot in the arm we need to carry us through to the end of the season.

Next 4 key, but then that would be 9 games won in a row :D Have we ever done that in the Prem? May drop points in one, but 10 points minimum in next 4 feels key if we are to open up a small gap that we can manage till end of season.

Be looking at 14 games left and probably 22-25 points required minimum to get top 6. Which the home games you have to back yourself in with who we got to play to get most of those points (7 games). Say it's 5 wins 2 draws, even that means just 2 away wins in the 7 minimum. Which makes the away games less daunting.

Essentially for me from here on to end of season, take advantage of home form. Clean that up (8 wins/2 draws minimum in the 10 left), we get Europe.

Can now get a maximum of 9, which is still important. Home form let us down today, but we really need that to be clean for rest of season to take some pressure off away games.

There‘a that many involved, it’ll be harder to finish top 4, let alone top 6.

Need a signing badly because the bench today was proper shit for game changers.

I still think we'll finish 6th or 7th despite the upturn recently, squad depth will ultimately cost us a Champions League place.

Our options are either run players into the ground or lose balance. We saw the impact of that today.

I'm slightly more optimistic.

We've got a week between our next couple of games to recover a bit.

Our lack of depth in theory was more of an issue over the last few weeks where we went on this amazing run. Other teams have the congestion issue to of course but all things being equal and balanced we came out of it on top.

If we avoid injuries I think we can be in the fight though we really do need strengthening.

A winning  run of nine and we get posts like this!  We’ll be fine, just had an off day.

European fixtures are back this week so the teams in that will have those games to contend with. For the likes of us, Bournemouth and Forest, it's how much momentum can be sustained. In the past 2 seasons, we did go on strong amazing runs until the final game, hence we finished in the European places. Hopefully, this 9 game winning run was not the only strong run we'll have this season.

Won 10 out of the last 16 games (which included a 3 game losing streak away from home) in 21/22 as well. A strong run in the home straight has been a theme of Eddie's time here, so here's hoping that continues!

"Posts like this" It's not negative to say we'll finish in a European position. It's realistic to say that squad depth might cost us CL, we can't run the same 11 players into the ground forever, and we look much less balanced when we change it. We're an Isak or Tonali injury away from being in a difficult position.

I've said we'll finish top 7 since the start of the season. I still believe that. Yesterday's result is irrelevant.

There’s a young lad at Forest called Elliot something or other, if we could attract a player like that it’d do wonders for our squad depth. He looks very well coached, greatly motivated and apparently loves Newcastle. Wonder what we could do to attract such a well rounded and versatile player.

Who was in the more shit position for PSR, us or Forest? Because Anderson had the potential and I find it so tough to take that we couldn’t give them Longstaff, even Willock to keep Anderson.

Instead lost a great talent and left with two who we are/will be actively trying to move on in this and next window.

Yes but Forest actually had a choice in who to take.

They definitely seem to have come out of it better, don't think anyone would argue that.

At least with Minteh we bought him ahead of Brighton for £8m then sold to them for £30m when they finally got their turn.

Just now, The Prophet said:

After Southampton we're looking at Fulham (h), City (a), Forest (h), Liverpool (a).

Stay in touch during that little run and we're laughing.

Can’t see anything other than 12 points tbh.
