Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

Misses a penalty against Germany in the World Cup final shootout.

Woltemade gets the winner.

Gordon is the one player who if he wants away we should say, sure but after the World Cup.

if the rumours are to be believed we have Bayern, Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool all sniffing around. A good world cup and we could see £90m with a bidding war (probably from Man U as a desperation move).

Said it earlier in the season that he should go to Spain, he will put up serious numbers in that league and Europe as he just suits the overall style of the league

Based on his form this season should Gordon even be getting many world cup minutes?

Who plays instead of him? Rashford has been in and out at Barca, Eze isn't really a left winger. There's weirdly not much competition for the spot at the minute. Maybe Eze? But he's a completely different profile and forces you to be more narrow.

If you count converted penalties as goals against, he’s basically responsible for relegating us

If we can get a good fee for the lad, then let him go. PL form this season (bread and butter), just hasn't been good enough. As good a player as he can be, he seems a bit of a big time charlie who picks and chooses when to turn it on.

That's fair. But he does do it twice as much as any of our other wingers, and he never stops the other way either.

As I say his face doesn't fit - I know my mates would love to see the back of him and I totally get it. But I'd sooner get what we can for Barnes and keep Gordon if it were up to me.

That being said I would take £70/75m IF we were to reinvest it wisely with a couple of young, talented players from overseas. I suppose that's the part that worries me most (the fact we will just blip the money). Once bitten and all that.

Probably end up going around in circles and I think we agree with the broader discussion points. But he certainly does stop the other way.

Of course it could be tactical and also you have to factor in how many sprints he manages per game. But I’ve seen him plenty of times this season where I thought the Gordon of old would have been putting far more of a shift in defensively.

Form aside, he has already been keen to leave in the past. And we need to learn when to sell.

Not sure why we'd punt barnes to keep a player that will look to leave again the following window.

The definition of a billy big bollocks player, believes his own hype and thinks he deserves Barca or Munich, anything over £70m and snatch their hand off.

He has been great for us at times but I think he has now become more disruptive than anything.

We’ve got one of the best pen takers going. Why on earth would we choose not to have him taking them?

I thought it would have been a nice gesture as a teammate for Gordon to let Nick take the second pen against Azerbaijanis to let him try to gain some confidence back.

I was Team Tripper in that little spat. May not have made a difference for Nick, but it seemed selfish at the time, and it seems selfish now.

He's currently our best of our attacking players AND he's not even that good. Two things can be true at the same time, it's more of a sad indictment of the state the squad is in.

He's a great player when he puts his mind to it, and therein lies the problem, for all the pseudo-intellectual psychobabble he spews out in interviews, he picks and chooses his games and can go missing if he's up against a competent full back, not to mention the times where he's lost his composure and got himself sent off.

Bayern or Barça would be a great move for all parties, please get it done before the cartel are on high alert!

Is that really legal to do while he is under contract (unless NUFC grants it)?

That was the one and only instance where he could have let Woltemade have it, given the scoreline. But equally, I have absolutely no issue that he didn’t. It’s not Under 9’s.

Trippier doing his dinger about it (albeit with good intentions) made the whole thing a lot more of an issue than it was.
