I guess Gordon has his now too. Him liking Isaks post proves how little he cares about Newcastle because he's not stupid he knows it would be spotted. We probably need to get over this fascination of players having to love us.

Just hope it means we're set for a proactive transfer market and rebuild. 4 minutes ago, AyeDubbleYoo said: This must be a pretty strong indication we are. And that we have had deals in motion for a while. It seems pretty obvious the Barca deal has been going on for weeks in the background. Possibly Bayern too. We'll find out soon enough, if this is going to be done by the weekend we should have at least one through the door within a matter of days.

I mean, it'd be nice as a fan and all, but that's complete fantasy land. Ownership is never going to put labor's interests ahead of their own, and nobody should ever put their company ahead of themselves either. I don't expect players to put the clubs interests above their own but it's about how they handle it and the level of respect shown. Gordon could have got the ball rolling with his agents on a move this week, and also approached Howe and co this week and said he wanted a move. It would have been sorted. He went about it infront of everyone with the club still competing for the European spots and ended up being dropped when he could have helped us on the field and I bet he couldn't care less about it now. Just fucking spineless and any player who wants to behave like that instead of doing it properly can jog on tbh.

So why should their be any expectation for the fans to have any loyalty to players then? I don't think anyone expects players to be saints and completely selfless. But respect and loyalty is earned by your actions. Edited May 27 by Teasy
Decky
Do people on this thread not think players should have a level of respect for the club paying their wages and have a bit of social media awareness too? Who said anything about loving the club? Just don't be twat to the club making you a millionaire and the fans who go to games every week while earning half your weekly wage every year. Not hard like. CallumG6
We’ve got a Scouse lad starting in our office next week, so I’ll know how Yamal feels. In all seriousness, fucking great bit of business we’ve done here.
robbo_11
I'm happy with this deal £70m + future sale % + home friendly against Barca to be arranged. Gordon when he wanted to could be great, but it was only shown in fleeting moments. The main memories I have from this season are him lying on the floor injured against Bilbao, trudging off against Crystal Palace away, the red card against Liverpool at home and then his penalty taking. He has a move to an elite club which his agents have been working on and we can look to reinvest the money into a player that wants to play for us. Danh1
Someone mentioned it on another post but the fact he’s going overseas is great. Would’ve felt bitterness had he went to Liverpool or somewhere. Even despite his behaviour, if the rat had ended up at Barcelona I’d have been able to wish him somewhat well.

I don’t think players liking posts on social media bothers me that much. I don’t disagree on your point that Gordon should be professional enough to help us over the last few games, but given how shit people on here say he is, perhaps we did better without him. 54
I am really glad this has been done so early and that the club have learnt lessons from last Summer (Who know having a Sporting Director could be so effective) . It was obvious he wasn't going to stay, and that he wanted out, its stating the obvious but it really was detrimental to our season that the Isak saga carried over until September last year, and I think the fee is a decent one, if not utterly spectacular, and even if he where to have a really good World Cup which added say £10m onto the fee, I think its more worthwhile to get it done now with a fee we are happy with, and just move on quickly so we have time to replace him. In terms of Gordon as a whole, i'm probably not going to really look back at his time here with any great fondness, but also not with any negativity either, he'll just be a player that played for us. He's a player who on his day is a world beater, and can win you a match on his own, its just he's very selective about when he turned it on, and he's always felt selfish, and seemed to always look after himself & his own needs before the teams. His off the ball work is genuinely elite, his pressing is quality and his pace is lethal, as is his off the ball awareness, which will be really hard to replicate in any replacement, and while I also think he's good at beating a man I don't think his end product is particularly good, 8 non-penalty goals and 7 assist in 60 Premier League games over the past 2 seasons isn't particularly good, and we can replace that, i'm also over him cutting in and blasting a shot over from the edge of the box which seemed like happened 2 times a game. I think this is a win win for both player and team, I don't think he's shamed himself in the way he's handled the potential move, and hasn't seemingly kicked up a fuss, and he gets a move that any kid would dream off, and we get a really good fee that we can use to refresh the squad, and its been done early. No hard feelings towards him, hes been good for us in spells and its quite obviously a good move for everyone involved. Nearly the same amount of red cards in that time? Is his book value as high as that? Thought we got him on a 3.5 year deal @ £45m Jan2023 and he signed a new 6 year deal in October 2024 that would put his book value at around £10-15m now

timeEd32
The best version of Gordon at Barca probably involves him having a fluid role across the front and being a key part of their press. He'll wreak havoc in some games, but even in the best case scenario his inconsistent finishing will probably drive their supporters mad.
