Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Have read other comments, but personally think its around the right money for him, especially if the add-ons are easily achievable. Lad at work reckons there's a sell-on clause (for us) in the deal too, but not seen that myself.

As for the player, will admit, wasn't a fan of him when we signed him, but that first full season, he put in some good performances, along with last season on our way to the Carabao Cup final. Ultimately though, his overall time will probably go down as slightly above average, but that's it.

Indifferent form, seeming to pick and choose his matches, and not great output when you take away the pens this season, and I think this is a good deal for both us and him.

Good luck to him in the future.

From who?

Bruno Guimarães

Bruno gave the strongest proper interview praise:

“He has been amazing. He is so quick. When we get the ball to him we know he’s going to do something special.”

Bet he didn't sleep last night - I don't blame him. Guy's gone right to the top despite each fanbase that he's played for not really being arsed about him. Nice guys really do finish last.

He’s very career focused, no doubt about it. Wonder if he’ll ever be truly celebrated by a fan base though. You can’t really get much bigger than Barca so it’s downhill after this.

Sounds a lot like Mr Owen.

That falls down a bit when hes just excluded himself from the last 10 games before a World Cup and his starting position isnt nailed down. Pretty stupid career planning when he could have kept quiet and still got his move pre WC

Yet he got both. Who knows what went on with Howe, I’m sure Gordon must have had reassurances about his England place or he would have kicked off.

Not sure the use of “literally” is entirely accurate there…

Owen really didn't help himself.  I'm sure that he refused to learn Spanish and his idea of fun was buying an English newspaper at the airport on the way to play golf.

If Gordon tries to learn Spanish and socialising with his teammates he'll be fine.

One other aspect worth noting; this is another player we've developed and sold on to a 'bigger stage'.

I'd imagine it gets easier to convince lads to join when you can point to someone like Gordon, and say, if you put the work in there'll be chances to achieve whatever you set out for yourself.

I'm just basing this on gut feeling here, but my impression with quite a few of the players that we've signed was much more that they were getting in at the ground level at a club that was going to be at that level, rather than coming here to then go to another club that's already there.

There is also nothing wrong with this approach. Grass at the elite clubs isn't always greener and we get the best out of the player while he is developing to that elite level.

It has to be the way in the interim as the club continues to grow.

Provided they continue to do what is needed off the pitch and provided the team can perform on the pitch and become European mainstays and Champions League semi-regulars at least, then increasingly players will stick around more and you can build something substantial.

Downie: "He can play a number of positions, too. Ordinarily, he's played off the left-hand side in a 4-3-3, but he's also been used a lot through the middle, to devastating effect at times."

Fucking when

I'm liking this deal more and more. Gordon's been stat-padding with pens and a hundred goals against Qarabag, and every "analyst" out there is scrambling to make sense of this deal. Yes, on his day he's a great player, but damn, it feels like we're conning the footballing world.

Gordon is not a number 9. Running quickly is not the only feature required from a no 9.

4 goals and an assist in 7 league matches playing up top from January to March

I’ve never grown extremely fond of him. I don’t mind him or anything. Think this is a good deal for everyone involved and I hope he does well.

I also like his clothing style more these days. But I’m also Swedish and from a textile city

I’ve found Gordon to be a deeply frustrating player, on paper he is the perfect winger for us and had the work effort to match. But he’s a bit of a one trick pony and it’s feels most premier league teams have worked out how to nullify his attacks. His head then drops and you get a mediocre performance.

He does have ability and feel he will do well in Spain, I think the greater space and time on the ball will suit his game. I don’t feel animosity towards him leaving, but he does have a very high opinion of himself and a slightly unjustified arrogance.
