England’s Anthony Gordon

Recommended Posts

Just a rush of blood to the head, bit of frustration and a bit of an overreaction from the Brighton lad but he was always going to walk for that imo. You can't do that and expect to get away with it. He's not a robot but he's now going to miss out on a Cup Final at Wembley against his boyh..... :(

He is and was infuriating in the league game. But he didn’t even play today

Haha, didn’t look at the teams. Who was it, he was chucking himself all over the place and was also walking a tightrope for a 2nd yellow. Or was that someone else as well? 😂

Did he not hear the whistle go before he made his run? Why was he even challenging for the ball there? Whole thing is just daft as fuck, no excuses for it at all.

I think it was just pure frustration from him at how we and he had played in the second half. He's just gone to push him but because their lad is falling he's got him in the head. Unfortunate, but still stupid like you say.

If referee gave a yellow, I don’t think he gets sent to the monitor and that’s what may save Gordon in his appeal. I’m clutching at straws.

Nah.

He's raised his hands, it's a red card and the law has been like that for years.

It's a red like, or at least an 'orange'. It usually shouldn't be overturned (even though a 3 game ban is insane) but every team has a right to have 'unfair' bans knocked on the head given the Arsenal carry on.

Was having a shocking second half.

Poor decisions, poor passes, mis-controlling the ball, and the crowds groans were getting louder.

Thought he was getting frustrated with himself more than anything, which led to him lashing out.

Guy is too emotionally volatile. Really needs to get a grip when things aren't going well.

He either starts trying too hard and making more mistakes, or is prone to losing his head.

I know his game is more about raw pace, his tenacity and work rate. But he is poor on the ball a lot of the time. Just loose and careless.

There was one in the first half that summed his season up for me. Some great counter attacking play from him and I think Joelinton who found him

a few times. Simple pass to Miley which would have led to a shot or playing Trippier or Barnes in down the line. Massively overhit the ball and the chance was gone.

Obviously there was a lot of good first half, as well and there were also plenty of other not so good stuff second half.

But all season when he cuts in and can’t get a shot away. It never feels like we’re going to do anything with it.

I feel like he’s trying to develop further as a player. When I wish he’d just get back to what he’s good at.

Got any other examples of this when he has played for us? Because I don't believe this is true at all.

I can't think of any and he's well known big advocate of meditation etc.

van Hecke. The bug eyed gimp who plays CB for them.

Somehow avoided a yellow for doing the Boris Johnson Rugby tackle on Willock

Apart from the red card, he's not really contributed to many goals recently either has he?

In general I think he's one of our better players, tries to make things happen, but his end product has been missing lately.

From the descriptions I thought it was off the ball. In play like that, I wouldn't expect a red - yellow.  Stupid nevertheless.

This is what I thought as well. It’s in the flow of a challenge, he hasn’t lined the guy up and struck him. He’s trying to shove him away and unfortunately contacts above the shoulders. It’s not violent conduct in a million years.

Give the ref a decision to make and you always run the risk. Stupid is the word

Probably on brand of me but I actually do have a great deal of sympathy for him, despite thinking it was a red. What he's done is momentarily lose his composure in an incredibly high pressure situation and now he's victim of the incredibly overzealous three-game role and misses the biggest game of his club career. That the ref denied him a clear foul for the same infringement moments earlier (contributing to his actions) and then was visibly excited to get the red card in front of his face, sticks in the craw.

It's a terrible, terrible error and he is accountable to it, but fans laying into him as if he isn't a massive reason for why we're in the final at all is a bit depressing. Understandable to some extent, but still just sad.

I know Willock has been poor most of the season. But I don’t really have much faith in Barnes, either.

I think to try and shore things up and with it sounding like Hall will be out a while and Botman seemingly never going to play again  it’ll be the Big Joe/Little Joe combo on that side.

In the most incriminating angle, where it looks a red, the defender is clearly holding and pulling a huge handful of Gordon's shirt. Gordon has repelled someone holding him.

We won't, but I bet Arsenal or Liverpool would get leniency for this. VVD gets leniency for elbowing people in the face.

I think he was trying to shove him off, don't think he was trying to strike him, but when you raise your hands that high, you can't really complain if you get sent off.

Been off it since the Liverpool rumours imo, still a canny player though with a few important goals etc

Its not that insane is it? Need to replace quite a few players this summer and probably cant do that without selling one of Isak/Tonali/Gordon/Hall/Bruno.

It is a bit like. By all accounts we have funds ready to go for improvements. Unless an insane offer comes in and we already know who we'd replace him with it's pointless.

It's mostly forcing things when he's not playing well, or going on to waste good opportunities moreso when he's off it.

Doesn't seem very composed at all.
