He’s right of course - we can’t break in under the current circumstances. There is no ‘natural’ growth route to catch those teams.

The only avenue available which PSR etc doesn’t touch is a new stadium.

Hopefully that penny will drop soon with the fans against a massive new stadium 🏟️

Being owned by the wealthiest owner in the World, yet another owner being heavily in debt and them being allowed to spend more is just a mockery of "financial fair play" and "sustainability"

It couldn't be anymore blatant about what the actual agenda is.

We have an owner willing and wanting to put say 1 billion into the club, but we can't buy a couple of 50m players as it risks us going bankrupt and ceasing to exist.

It's an absolute pisstake and has made my true love for football diminish.

Job done for the greedy cunts I guess.

Still, I can't wait until we get there, because we will, and it's going to be so sweet seeing the look on all their faces. Richard keys, Daniel Levy,Delaney. All of them.

They’ll have probably died of old age by then.

As a thought what stops PIF buying up assets and transferring ownership to the club? Kind of like what Chelsea do with hotels.

£1Billion in a NASDAQ or DOW tracker fund, sell to NUFC for a nominal amount. Ultimately PIF still own the asset as they own the club so no loss to them unless there’s a Great Depression II (which will probably happen knowing our luck).

Wait for those more knowledgeable in football finance to tell me it’s a non starter.

Because it’d take less than a nanosecond for the Premier League & cartel to bring in new rules that made it illegal to sell NASDAQ or Dow tracker funds to football clubs

I think it's probably a non starter because any transaction like that would be subject to a FMV assessment.

Chelsea had existing assets and sold them to their parent company at what was probably fair market value. The issue we have is we don't really have anything to sell that is worth anything.

What they do seem to possibly have got away with is the management contract which means they still get all of the profits from the hotel, but it's hard to see how we could do something similar that would make us enough money to be worthwhile.

Still wouldn't. 8-10k more seats wont make up that difference. Its achillies paradox anyway, by the time we've got closer, they'll have increased their prices and maintained the gap

Not really the extra seats that will make much difference. But probably the executive boxes and extra income via bars and restaurants, etc.

Same applies to that. They'll still make more from that side of things and can charge more than us in that arms race on account of having more demand for supply by virtue of the gloryhunters/day trippers built up on the success/relative success that we are forbidden of.

Don't know what the situation is at West Ham re hospitality etc but they're no better off than they were relative to the teams above them at their new stadium.

New stadium will close the gap but it’s not a silver bullet. Not even close.

An academy as productive as City or Chelsea  would make the biggest difference. That’s quality players with no fee and starting on low wages. And it generates £20-40m in player deals each season for both clubs. Pure profit. City pinch a bunch of lads at 14-16 from other academies.

Obviously trying to circumvent the rules would be best. But there’s no appetite for that.

Don't really see where we can have any optimism any more, rules are pretty much in place to stop the likes of us ever catching the cartel.

Richest owners in the world and we can't afford to buy anyone as it could risk bankruptcy 🤦🏻‍♂️

What's the point any more.

What's most frustrating is the likelihood of anything we want to do, is going to be a super slow burn :( ...build a new stadium, build a world class youth academy etc etc. it's just gonna be so slow to see real progress.

Little did we know at the time, but that 22/23 season might be the best we have for a long long time and possibly will be our best chance at silverware for awhile also. That was supposed to be just the start but it feels like everything has just gone backwards since.

Sorry that was all very doom and gloom, been ill as fuck for over a week now so I guess everything is just bleak to me right now 😅

I’m also feeling slightly deflated right now as well. I was watching the game on Sunday wondering if we’d ever get to the stage where we can go into a game like that and think seriously that we will match them, compete consistently and not just roll over. I always have the same kind of feeling whenever we go to the ‘big’ away games.

I just don’t see how we can take the next step without being able to invest to get more quality into the squad.

Maybe we just need to take a tactical points deduction one season which we fight on appeal I dunno

Unless something fundamentally changes then no, we won't be able to catch up. Bridging the revenue gap with related party transaction rules in place was the final nail in the coffin.

I'm yet to hear anything credible from anyone regarding closing the gap, new stadium appears to be the best hope we have of reducing the deficit but obviously that will take a long time.

Hence the deflation of things and my malaise at the pace of growth. A stadium will take at a minimum 2 years and then the upside in revenue will obviously exceed that.

Eddie and the team will still get my full support no matter what and hopefully we can get some more positivity across the fan base to lift us to a decent end of year finish

It’s not the extra 8-10k seats that would make a difference tbf.  Which is why expanding SJP would be a waste of money

Depends who the owners are

And when the directors are telling us we're going to win the league within 10 years it kind of throws that statement (that one small group of fans decided to make) right out the window as expectations hit a hard reset.

I believe the PL isn't far off reaching it's peak (if it hasn't happened already) Same clubs winning all the trophies for 25-30 years (with the exception of Leicester) and now you have Man City who are winning PL titles in a row, trebles, etc. It will become boring and people will switch off. Champions League is already going the same way.

Arsenal played Liverpool at the weekend and normally, I would have been bang up for watching it, but instead - I booted up FM and listened to it on 5Live. It's also rare that I watch MotD these days. Perhaps it's just me though - I don't know.
