That's the way to do it. Stay up a few seasons at others expense because you broke regulations and take a small points deductions a few years later when it doesn't matter.  Food for thought

Well yeah that in itself is ridiculous. They've stayed up at others expense who haven't broke the rules and been given a punishment the one season it may not condemn them to Championship. Whole thing just seems like a shit show.

The sooner FFP gets removed in favour of a luxury tax the better, the whole FFP system is a shambolic embarrassment as it stands. Regardless of the implications towards us, regular messing about with deductions, chopping and changing the table, it's just cocking up where teams are placed too much, nobody knows whether they're coming or going and there's always that possible specter over your shoulder and that where you 'think' the teams are in the table, might not actually be the case, so nobody knows what to aim for. Just a mess from start to finish - it's becoming a balance sheet championship for most teams, more than actual football being played.

Not sure I could stand some of our fans if a luxury tax was invoked. A lot of them are annoying as it is

Don't like the idea of all time tables having in brackets by the clubs how many points they've been deducted so as to make sense of the wins/draws not totting up to the points correctly. May as well open another table like goal-difference.

Suppose its worth messing with things like that so Spurs and the reds have an easy life though.

Seems strange that the punishment is less if you do it twice.  Normal logic would be you get a harsher punishment.

The problem with going crazy one summer is that it's a rolling 3 year period so we'd continue to get hit with deductions each season

 

Our approach whilst frustrating is the sensible one, playing along whilst hopefully the entire thing comes crashing down means we don't lose out

I wasn't being entirely serious, but it does make you think it's pointless us playing by the rules, especially when they keep changing the rules solely to stop us competing.

 

If our organic progress is going to be limited such that it'll take 10+ years to become a regular European club, it makes a fine and a 3 year European ban or whatever the maximum is they can throw at us seem rather small in comparison. If taking the punishment and coming out the other side still leaves us ahead, we'd be silly not to consider it. Especially when the whole thing is otherwise set up to stop specifically just us from gaining any ground.

To play Devil's Advocate we're only 2½ years in, we've had one CL run and could still end up in Europe again next season despite our crippling injury situation.

Why do you say that? FFP was agreed in 2009 by UEFA and implemented two years later. It was obviously set up - at least in part - to try to stop somebody coming in, buying any club and then throwing money at the wall. For many reasons, some nefarious, some not. Of course 13 years later it was you that got bought by a country and so you’re in their sights now.

I was just questioning the “whole thing” phrase - just seemed like over-egging the pudding. The authorities have been trying to shut the stable door for years and years, and clearly it’s been unworkable/failed as shown by Man City’s rise.
