Singing Section at SJP - Poll

  1. 1. Would you want a large singing/standing section at St James' Park?

    • Yes. I'm an existing season ticket holder and I would want to be a part of it

    • Yes. I'm an existing season ticket holder but wouldn't want to be part of it, but I would move to a seat somewhere else if the singing section was to be where I currently sit....as long as I was happy with the new seat.

    • No. The atmosphere is fine as it is.

    • No. The atmosphere needs to improve but this isn't the answer.

    • Yes. I'm just a member at the moment but would want one in the singing section.

    • Yes. I'm just a member at the moment but would want a season ticket in a non-singing section. But a singing section needs to happen to let people who want to sing be together

Sat in the gallowgate for the Brighton game and fucking hell get me back in the east stand.

Mates seat was two seats away so asked if they minded moving down one seat.  " Nah these are our season ticket seats" eventually they moved cos I was very awkward and they said "you didn't explain properly"

These season ticket holders didn't sing, fucked off for a bit after 25 min and said Brighton game was worst ever see. Us play apparently.

3 mid 20s kids behind me didn't not shut fuck up all game. But never singing.

Covering topics like gays or someone telling a gay guy to fuck off.

Bruno only being good first half.

Murphy is shit

Need to sack Howe

We are going down if lose next two games

Need sign Davis from Ipswich because he had 50 assists in championship and stats like that it dont matter if is the champ.

Just off top my head.

This has been my experience whenever I’ve been sat directly in front of a group of 17-24 lads in L7.

One group talked relentlessly about their accas and were just talking about other scores at the time constantly and the other fucked off at about 30 minutes and didn’t come back until the 75th minute.

Weirdly I find that it mostly comes from the Strawberry Corner.

I sit there and never heard any booing in strawberry corner. The only time I heard booing was when Tonali was subbed off.

Very loud boing from that corner when final whistle went.

An underrated annoyance. So irritating when you've got someone just constantly fucking waffling on about nothing.

I was at PSG v PSV on Tuesday night, and Wow, what an experience! Probably the 2nd best atmosphere I've ever witnessed after attending well over 1,000 matches in a variety of Countries over 40 years. Possibly only Marseille was better when I went when we played them in the UEFA Cup Semi in 2004.

We got in in the ground 45 mins before KO and the stand behind the opposite goal to where we were was already full and every one of them singing. It was absolutely deafening! Proper made the hair on the back of your neck go up! They literally did not let up from then all the way through to the final whistle, even after they went a goal down. Was one of those rare games where I found myself watching the crowd more than the match. They were so good!

Just a totally different mentality from over here. The match was everything. Nothing else seemed to matter to them. I had to run down for a piss on 42 mins as I'd been drinking most of the day and my bladder is shite these days, and the concourse was still virtually deserted!

Was completely taken aback by it all. For some reason I had this pre conceived idea that it would be pretty poor atmosphere wise but I couldn't have been more wrong.

Clearly they've got issues with crowd behaviour. I received an email on the afternoon of the match basically saying that they didn't want a repeat of the racist and homophonic chanting that marred their last home game v Strasbourg so that's one thing where we are better than them, but other than that they are absolutely light years ahead of us in every other way.

Was a real eye opener but yet another sad indictment as to where our country now lies in terms of fan culture and atmosphere.

Should also add that away supporters were banned from attending this match so it was home fans only so it's not even like they had (or needed tbf) the away support to get them going, as you sometimes see. Apparently the Old Firm has gone downhill atmosphere wise since away fans were stopped from attending.

I went to all the champions league games last year away and honestly PSG is far better than Dortmund, it's just media perception about the yellow wall (not denying it's great).

You really see the issue at SJP is that all stands are the same, we need one end where age is younger and more keen. I find football in England really is lost.

I look back to the first season of us in the championship when I was in my first year of Uni and it was fucking brilliant. Young lads getting pissed causing no trouble and having a good sing song, away ends full of people who wanted to be there. I remember spurs away in cup in maybe 2014 at white hart lane, we got battered but away support was unbelievable. I actually like how some of the lower league teams have a big following of lads 16-21 who stand together and follow their team regardsless. Seems a far cry from the premier league.

  • 2 weeks later...

So so much better today. I was worried it might be a bit flat with the 1230 KO but it was loud right from the start. Arsenal being cretins winding up the crowd certainly helped things too.

 it was really good. Best this season, easily. Helps having a bit of needle with the opposition.

I sat with Rich’s radgie mags right at the back of the Gallowgate, where there’s a cluster of all-standing (unofficial) and consistent singing. Felt close to being at an away match. Noise from there probably doesn’t carry much, not a big group, but bounce off the corner a bit. It was class, would love to be somewhere like that every week - didn’t even know there was anywhere like that, bar maybe the corner.

Had such an East Stand moment at the weekend.

First volunteered to move seats because guy and his wife were sitting a couple of rows apart. Then in the new seat I get asked if I have 'Kevin's ticket', which obviously I haven't a clue about and also who cares. So can I move another seat along because a woman and her Dad have tickets one seat apart and they always swap with Kevin. Of course they have a story about how they've been sitting there for 30 years.

Then a guy who isn't her Dad comes and says I'm in his seat, but he can't turn his phone on to show me the ticket. He asks where my seat is, of course I have to explain I've already swapped seats twice. So... we go back to the original bloke and his wife who turn out to be in completely the wrong area of the stand - upper instead of paddock. So I have to then climb back up two rows to where I started.

Fin.

Lesson in life, never be nice to people, especially in the east stand

Would only have been made better had it been 5 mins after ko, and you were incurring the wrath of everyone in the vicinity for blocking their view.

It's Block T, aye. It wasn't even as good as it has been in the past, likely due to the early kick-off, I'd say it's usually louder than that for the big games.

Wor @Ash@Big River, and @Joe Dynamite are usually up there as well.
