Yankuba Minteh (now playing for Brighton & Hove Albion)

Recommended Posts

I thought he worked back well. As Tino and Gordon were very direct. Well, at least in the first half.

Obviously he scored. So hard to say he didn’t do much. But it’s going straight at Dubravka if not for Trippier’s touch.

I didn’t think he did much at all otherwise. Tino had him locked up most the game.

Had the idea of making a smug post when I popped over to FBRef to grab the stats of the season so far, but Minteh's all-round game isn't half bad at all it seems from the numbers alone.

At least we've found someone worse at passing a football than wor Jacob

This is why I loosely compare Minteh to a raw Mane (and Minteh is still a raw player overall). He works hard, wins a lot of aerial duals in the box and in attacking areas, great movement and composure in the box and seems a tidy finisher. In a 442 he would be a striker

20 years old - first year in the Prem. I still think he can become a really good attacker. I like Mbeumo but I would expect Minteh to become a better player if he continues to develop.

He'll need to improve that build-up game though.

Murph was saving his aerial win for the best moment possible.

[emoji38] I don't think anyone in the universe expected Murphy to win that header. The man is allergic to physical battles.

That and the godlike 1 in a million Burn rocket header.[emoji38] It was just meant to be that day (we were the better team regardless).

FBRef mention claxon

Just popping in with my usual response to any FBRef mentioned to remind everyone that FBRef is absolutely hopeless and notoriously shit at stats, even at a "free service" standard. UnderStat and FootyStats are endlessly better than FBRef among the free stat sites. UnderStat being the site that comes out on top for stats if doing a direct comparison between US and FS – as the depth level of available stats on US isn't half bad for a free service with G90, xG90, Sh90, A90, xA90, KP90, xChain, xGChain90, xGBuildUp & xGBuildup90 being some of the available stat options.

That said, even US and to some degree FS, aren't worthwhile sources for actual stat-keeping – no free services are. Once you've experienced the genuine in-depth play-by-play stat-keeping done by companies whose databases require payment to access, you'll never look at sites like FBRef the same way ever again.

I'm aware the price points for paid stat-database services are way, way, out of reach for anyone that aren't looking at stats for work-related reasons, don't worry about that  Just feel responsible to point out that all the stats on FBRef sites and the likes aren't worth anyone's attention, your eyes provide more genuine insights about players than those "stats" do
