It’s hardly inconceivable that Spurs could jump back into the top five / six next season with a good summer of recruitment.  Where did Man Utd finish in 24/25?  The league is much of a muchness - it doesn’t take miracles or genius to jump a dozen places up the table.

They just need to be competent given the resources they have. That's all.

Slight tangent but relevant. Squad cost is amazing for Man united and Spurs because interest payments aren't counted amongst the calculations so basically zero punishment for being massively in debt.

We play him too deep. Think there's a great footballer in there further up the pitch.

Said it before, but it's an athlete's game now. His best attributes shouldn't be too hard to replace. If he wants to go, let him go. I get the feeling this will accelerate quickly the way Fab is going on.

Ever since there were whispers his agent was looking about, I've been resigned to him going. And as last season went on, increasingly less bothered.

He just didn't seem the player who could grab the game by the scruff of the neck any more, or maybe it was a motivation thing. Decent fee and I'm ok with it, however good he has been in the past.

Feels like this is all going to be over in the blink of an eye. Get the Camara deal all but done before we agree a sale. That's what a competent club would do.

This at least gives us the option to buy a cheaper replacement and use the difference to fund a move for a new right winger.

Aye, have thought this for a while.

Think he can do pretty much everything Joelinton does in that role, and add more quality on the ball to it. Feels a waste of what an absolute engine he has on him not using him more box to box.

But the problem is Tonali is not very good attacking player. He doesnt do key passes, doesnt beat his man, is not good between the lines. He has a good shot in him, thats true

He was tried as box to box here at first.

Sends a terrible message selling one our blue-chip players to spurs ffs.

Agreed. But if he does want to move on, get him away to whoever pays enough.

There has been criticism about the club being poor sellers and that ultimately we need to sell to be able to strengthen the squad.

I do at least have faith that we'll reinvest the money and think there are enough holes in the squad that we maybe need to anyway. Obviously dependent on getting the right players in, but that goes without saying.

I will fly to Newcastle in the peak of winter and swim the full length of the Tyne naked if he ends up at Spurs.

Unlikely but this is worth quoting just in case

It's not crazy to consider that Tonali might have another ban before he's through as well. I rate him but I'm okay with selling for a substantial profit and moving on.

Obviously would very much prefer a move abroad, but - and it hope I'm not fucking us here - I don't think he'd be a player where we rend our garments in regret every time we face him across the pitch.

Surely we're now in a position to make sure we have a replacement in before he goes, hopefully that's the case and we make sure it's right for us.

Been of the opinion we'd lose 2 of Gordon, Tonali and Tino since before the season ended.  Can see all 3 going now and I'm not nearly as bothered as I thought I'd be, good money in and good riddance.

Would say a lot about the so called project we are trying to build here as well.

True but I’m not sure what the options are if the player wants to go. Last season was damaging

If we get £85m and he goes to spurs it’s the ideal scenario. His agents noise is becoming boring.

The fact of the matter is we got 0 goals and 2 assists out of Tonali last season and he’s had 1 good season in 3. Even his good one didn’t really kick in until October ish.

Thats good money for him and the fact he’s off to spurs says a lot about him both ability wise and character wise.

Off you pop, Sandro. Thanks for helping us win the cup, wish you well!

It will feel this way for me until they actually get started on the expensive capital investments (Training ground/stadium).
