From The Athletic:

"Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported today that Tonali allegedly used a site called worldgame365.me while Zaniolo was said to have used Evoz9.fx-gaming.net. Both sites are illegal. It is not yet known whether it is claimed that the platforms were used to place bets on football.

ANSA, the Italian news wire, and La Repubblica claim sources close to Zaniolo say he admitted to using the platform but said he did not know it was illegal to do so and had only played card games on it."

It seems that you have to have a licence to operate a bookies/casino etc in Italy so if he's been using a VPN to access a site without an Italian licence then he's broken their gambling laws.

Similar set up to UK in a local licensing structure. What Italy has that isn’t as prevalent  there is a deeply entrenched at institutional level organised crime control over unlicensed supply of remote gambling.

Even the country’s equivalent of Ladbrokes (SKS365 / Planet Win) was once unlicensed due to mafia connections within its directors and shareholders. It’s since changed ownership and has the correct regulator approvals.

Does gambling do any good for a society? Sadly I don't think it does.

Lots of people enjoy it.

What good does alcohol do for society?

What good does fast food do for society?

Unless we’re all happy to live in a completely puritanical society, we can’t just ban everything that has a potentially negative outcome for someone that does too much of it.

Sure, put stringent controls around advertising. Put far more emphasis/responsibility on the vendor. But just banning it would be ridiculous.

Don’t think gambling ban is quite the answer but a more sensible approach would be to put Sweden and Japan in charge of all worldwide gambling regulation

Why Sweden?
