I have reminded myself that this is an Eddie Howe managed team. Whoever we sign the following players will be in Howe’s preferred first XI next season with anyone else getting bedded in:

 

Tino

Hall or Trippier

Botman or Burn

Tonali

Joelinton

Bruno

Gordon

Isak

 

so that is eight first team places filled no matter what. Additionally it is going to take a bloody good player to replace the incumbents in the other three positions.

 

i suspect we will only sign 1 player for those three semi vacant positions. Maybe 2 if value can be found.

 

i therefore think we will mostly be looking at players that we believe can replicate the progress Tino has made over two seasons.

 

in which case need to consider any positions where the cover is not quite at the standard we need (striker and CM)

I know he gets a bit of a bad rap cause he comes across as a bit of a dope and the whole Almiron thing etc but Jack Grealish is a good guy. He helps out a lot with charity, fans who've met him often say how approachable and down to earth he is.

 

If money wasn't a factor, he'd be perfect for us, an exciting flair player, a big personality and a canny lad.

 

Unfortunately, money is a factor, so it's a non starter.

He's not got enough about him to be worth more than that. Howe has seen that now and phased him out. 10-12 million probably only for a promoted team as the other teams have better players.

We are great at doing down our own players, he was a critical player for a team that finished 4th and 7th over the past two seasons. Yes he hasn’t played much since the turn of the year,  but that is due to their being a better option in Tonali, rather than Longstaff being utterly bobbins. He's a better player than many on here give him credit for, just much like Willock he no longer fits into the way we play and the club has outgrown him. He will go elsewhere and be a success, I’ve no doubt.

Yeah, he's not really cut out for possession football, is he? He'd be much better in a low block counter-attacking team. Places like Nottingham Forest, Everton, or Crystal Palace would be perfect for him.

Check out that Newcastle team that came in 4th. He was huge for us when we countered from a low block. But he got benched when our style changed.

He's barely got a kick in months, Miley and Willock preferred when fit. He played an important part in previous seasons but he's not very good at all. 10 million is on the money I think.

 

If he was looking back in form Howe would have used him more.

A Grealish with the Pep shackles removed playing in a free-ish role as part of a midfield 3 rather than a winger, kind of like he did at Villa(?), could be great. As a left winger I prefer Barnes and Gordon. Grealish right now appears like a slower version of our Damien Duff. Carries the ball a few meters, dribbles inside without getting past anyone then passes the ball backwards, rinse and repeat.

The lad has ability and I trust Eddies coaching to bring the best out of him - the only way I can see it working though is if we are selling Barnes and he's competition for Gordon for the LW slot

Agree with this. Vacant eyes of a pisshead. 

 

Seems like a pretty weird dude too. What you would call BTEC in every sense. If he wasn't a footballer he'd have a 3 French bulldogs, a grey crushed velvet settee, range rover evoke on tick and a 'yarden' with fake grass.

This current version of Jack Grealish has had the flair and excitement completely rinsed out of him. He's as boring as watching paint dry now.
