Absolutely nothing wrong with having a mix of signings, old heads, development prospects, top young first teamers, top players in their prime (actually at this stage fecking anyone). Personally, I’d be chuffed to get McGinn. Would prefer Gallagher but that might not be possible.

McGinn is better than Longstaff and Willock plus he'll likely end up as one of the leaders in the dressing room. 

 

We're seemingly incapable of buying players to raise our ceiling, so we may as well raise the floor, even marginally. 

 

This rumour would've gone down so much better if we got the 3/4 bits of quality in first, instead, it feels like yet another gut punch.

McGinn is an utterly shit idea that takes me back to signings like Butt, Smith, and Geremi. I would sack whoever even suggested it.

It’s the head of recruitment who approves it I’d be worried about, unfortunately that raises awkward questions this summer.

I try to stay positive but this seems to be in our DNA.  The ability to absolutely shoot ourselves in the foot knows no bounds.  Been the same in my over 30 years supporting the club. No matter the ownership, this is such a Newcastle thing to happen

I’d advise anyone to watch McGinn’s performance against PSG at Villa park last season in the CL QF before dismissing the idea. Immediate improvement on longstaff, willock and miley. If Arsenal did this instead of Norgaard I suspect people on here would say “why aren’t we making that move?”

We would probably need to replace him after a year or 2, he’s on his last legs. Meanwhile Villa will be eyeing up the next Morgan Rogers, a player I doubt we would have noticed or taken a chance on.
