toontownman
Good player 6 years too late for us. 31 soon, not someone we need for the price Villa will naturally demand. Might as well have just kept Longstaff!
J7
To be fair, if it’s on the cheap he’s a lot better than Longstaff and would hardly be a long term option. Suspect a signing like this would be more to tide us over than anything. We’ve already fucked the window and we do need options. It might be better than spending tens of millions on someone we don’t really want, then not having the money to spend on someone we do want in a future window. Ginola14
I like the idea of weakeing Villa before the season opener at their place wasn't long ago that Watkins was terrorising our defence in that 4-

SUPERTOON
Maybe unfair, but if someone said at the start of the window our signings would be Ramsdale, Elanga, Thiaw, McGinn and Wissa and Isak was leaving the majority would be underwhelmed at best. We have seemingly had no upside from qualifying for the champions league in terms of transfers.
oldtype
In theory at least it's not a bad idea to look for squad depth this way, good players from PSR-constrained teams that are on the verge of exiting their primes and losing resale value. Would get good value for our money now, and the hope would be that in 2-3 years when they're no longer useful we won't mind losing money on them because our revenue will have grown to accommodate. Haha I just sent this to my mate funnily enough…..Newcastle’s 25/26 transfer window needs studied by academics it’s been a fuckin farce from start to (almost) finish. Not signed a single player that takes us up a level
RUHRLYASLEEVESUP
Welcome to Newcastle John Mcginn, Our sporting director Shaun Ameobi (son of Shola) delighted to get this one over the line after a long chase
Rafalove
I like McGinn, but we need someone to unlock those low blocks. I don’t think he’s that player.

But surely everyone could see he’d add significant depth to our squad? He'd be class, I'd love him here even given his age. It's just that it would be the hardest possible deal to do and feels like it could drag us into another saga. Would be good if we had already started working on it with Villa and everyone was receptive, but with how summer has been going I doubt it.
Andy
If you rewound to May and asked a Mackem to write our summer, I don't think even they would've come up with Elanga, Ramsdale and McGinn in by the start of the season, with Isak going on strike. It would be too far.

JigsawGoesToPieces
John McGinn man Proper scraping the barrell now Recruitment team been a joke this summer, they must have just bought the Premier League panini sticker book and just flicked to a random page Edited August 6, 2025 by JigsawGoesToPieces

Vinny Green Balls
If we have money to spare, which we do, we should seriously put in a bid for Gallagher. That way we give Tottenham the chance to go in dry. Arsenal the only left to tick then.

I wasn't criticising Elanga, but he's part of the overall picture of the summer as things stand, and it's the overall picture that's grim. FWIW I don't actually think McGinn is a bad player, but again, circumstances taken into account it's difficult to feel anything towards him.

Elephant
We have used all of Ashworts notes and we are all over the place completely clueless. I rather not sign anyone and get DOF in this week and let him handle the situation.
