Any thoughts on Nick Woltemade. 6ft 6 German U21 scoring 6 goals at the Euros. Plays for Stuttgart. There's a flight from there to Dusseldorf tomorrow morning with a private jet leaving an hour later to Newcastle. Was supposed to be signing for Bayern but fell through on Friday. Not itk but saw a private jet whilst watching Thiaw flight and started following possibilities.

I'm beginning to think whoever we go for next week we will have already been in for before.

 

Just checked the new lads threads we had bid for both of them last year.

 

Either we are still using Ashworths old lists or Eddie always gets his man.

 

Well except for Ekitika and Pedro multiple failed bids lol

I was told last week they're interested in Amir Richardson. Tbh I didn't know who he was, didn't look him up, and assumed by him having the most English and Championship name ever that he was a Championship player like Jack Rudoni. Had no idea he's a Moroccan that's playing for Fiorentina. :lol:

 

So maybe it's him.

Is that the guy who’s like Dan Burn height playing central midfield, son of an NBA basketball player? No clue how he’s Moroccan though?

 

anyways, I’m into it just for the sheer weirdness of it all. Bring him home.

Apparently so. Tall, skinny lightskin - Eddie certainly has a type.

this whole lists thing does my head in. You’d want us to spend a decent chunk of change on a player vetted over a long period of time rather than just signing a player on very limited viewing.

Wow, has no idea Michael Ray Richardson’s son was now a professional footballer in Italy lol

Genuinely have no idea why people think signing players we’ve been looking at for a long time is a bad thing.

Just watched his highlights and he fits the exact profile of an Eddie Howe type of player alright.

 

Has the physique, gait and ball control of Ekitike basically.

 

Looks good but highlights will probably be deceiving, apparently we were linked early July and a lot of people who watch Serie A are saying we can do better.

I think the point they’re making is that we decided at least a year ago that our transfer targets this summer were worth buying and for some reason we haven’t identified any new players that might be both affordable and attainable to improve the first 11 or even the squad in the 12 months.
 

Our limited budget, year-long prep time and genuinely excellent track record for finding “work in progress” gems should have seen us trying to box clever in this window instead of resorting to throwing wild haymakers as the clock ticks down because our shortlist of targets turned out to be a lot shorter than we needed.

 

Sorry for venting, it’s late and I’m tired.

It’s the exact opposite of wild haymakers though. We already started vetting our targets for this window at least a year ago, or more. That’s how we know they are “work in progress” gems in the first place. And there’s been no indication that our shortlist has run out despite having been forced to move on to second, third, (or in the case of the striker position) our fifth or sixth choices.

 

What we don’t appear willing to do is buy players solely based on reputation and opportunity when we’re not comfortable that they’ve been sufficiently vetted. And while that makes for frustrating transfer windows from a fan’s perspective, it’s a prudent way to run things given how little margin for error we have.

As an example of how methodical we are with this stuff, according to local media reports we started tracking Park Sung Soo when he was sixteen years old. We took a year and a half to watch him develop, vet his personality, and build connections with his camp so that he’d choose us over teams like Bayern and Spurs.

 

If that’s the amount of due diligence we go through for a U-21 team signing from Korea, I can only imagine how much work is put into first team players who are playing in Europe.

I think most of the European experts on here would love him and Wissa as our choices going into this season
