Been their best player this season (outside of Anderson).

The reaction reminds me of the one to James Garner, and then a few months later he was in the England squad.

Don't know why these sorts of players get overlooked so often.

Think there's some prejudice against them as they've previously played for bigger clubs and not made the grade (Williams,Garner,Elanga)

I’m still yet to hear a good argument why buying players who have played well in the PL to play in the PL is not a reasonable approach

Because the fees and wages are inflated to a point it isn't sustainable for us to do so.

Williams is decent, but he signed a new 4 year contract last year so will cost a fair bit. If we're looking at signing him, it will be to start you would think.

Comparing him to Tino, he's a clear downgrade and older, and certainly wouldn't represent a good signing for a club looking to challenge the top 4/5 imo.

A full year older. Seems to be less injury prone though.

Tino is much better though, both defensively and as a ball carrier. If Williams replaces him as a starter it's a clear downgrade.

Speculating of course.

Don't agree.

Thing is with Tino he really ain't all that on the right hand side. Exceptional on the left but Hall still probably better. I've no idea if Williams is the one but I don't feel like an upgrade is an impossible job there.

Especially in the final third. Grown frustrated with Tino not improving in that area.

I think we haven't seen the best of Tino yet but obviously he will be away, that being said we bought him and will make a profit, he never signed a new deal so I doubt his contract was huge as well.

Williams would come in probably for about what we paid for Tino but likely on a higher salary and without the headroom we had when Tino came in. He'd do a job for us though

If Williams can start twice as many games as tino did at 85% of the quality, I'd pick him over tino.

Tino & Tonali leaving with Williams & Anderson coming in plus funds for a keeper and backup fbs would be damage limitation. Reckon Howe would be fine with that as well (rather than risks from abroad)

It's a nice graph but it's not a football match, and I've watched both players and Tino is far more impressive to me. He's a vastly underrated dribbler, fantastic at riding challenges and progressing the ball. Defensively he's one of the best 1v1 full backs in the league. Neither player is that consistent in the final third, but neither is Hall who most of us consider approaching world class.

Tino is clear imo, and possibly even slightly underrated on here since the talk of his move away.

Wtf [emoji38]

People were saying hey we’re happy to be relegated under Howe for the LC win. The consequences of that mindset is finishing mid table will leave us vulnerable for our best leaving. If we secured Europe we have a better case for players to stay, unless they have personal circumstances out of our control.

I don't mind. I accepted this month's ago when everyone was saying we still have the cups and will finish the season strong. It's not me who needs to make peace with the truth of how shite this season has been, and how it will set us back.

A quick scan of the Forest forum seems to reveal wall-to-wall adoration of the lad with many calling him their player of the season. Very consistent with great tackling and delivery, according to them.

Also noticed someone share a Romano tweet which just said loads of teams would be in for him this summer.

It's already too late for him then.

Qualifying for Europe has little to no bearing on whether or not we can or can't sign decent players though. Losing one or two, fair enough but we're hardly Gandalf clinging onto a narrow, rickety bridge....are we?

Well I can guarantee you that people involved in player recruitment are watching the players as well as using that sort of data extensively.

Yes it does. Players want to play in Europe and will choose clubs over it. But the biggest impact is that it requires a bigger squad to be able to satisfy players who make that up. Give chance to youth. The players who w one day's replace the stars. Without Europe we step back from squad building, and end up back to not being ready for Europe when we do well in the league, as we don't have the squad for it. Can't believe people have watched the last few seasons of us cycle, and still not get it.

Finishing outside of Europe also puts questions of failing to meet objectives for the manager. Now we have instability on the one bringing players in and if they'll even be there next season. You think good players with options arent going to question all these things? Players aren't going to move on due to where we find ourselves?

I'm sure they are, but all you have to do is watch them both and it's obvious that Tino is a better player. It's why Tino will move to an 'elite' club and Williams won't.

Don't think he's well clear of him like you had originally said. Certainly not in the final third.

If Tino and Trippier are both leaving bringing in a solid prem performer and then a younger prospect with a higher upside makes sense to me, and is likely what they are looking at doing.

But we saw the exact opposite of this last summer... Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton and even Sunderland have players who would walk into our "Champions League" squad.

We signed some of our best players with no European football. It can be done.

Not saying they're wrong or anything, but they were angry with Elanga being sold and he hasn't panned out here. Just because the guy has performed well for them, doesn't really mean much of anything.
