Viana & Bramble Woodgate in January The two summer signings were mainly potential but didn't massively improve the quality of the starting XI. Tonali and Barnes are huge. And Lee Bowyer on a free for 2003/04. English football is also stronger now than it was then - finishing 4th takes far more quality. 2 hours ago, Scoot said: Exactly. Once again I'm not saying players won't need to leave, but no one knows our budget and we feed the media what we want all the time about FFP. We'll probably not do any more business until August after Barnes comes in. Honestly, it’s not a case of what the owners want to spend - the maths on FFP are public knowledge. Same again this year, personally i'm just going to let it play out and enjoy. We all know how it goes. We’ll sign one or two more in the next few weeks, then YAR will fly over in August and authorise a nice new treat for us.

Yorkie
That's some hustle by Leicester getting that much for him when Maddison only went for a few quid more.
Andy84
Feels like a fair deal with 2 years on his contract and the numbers he’s put up in the PL. Not forgetting the English premium

It’s more urgent to reduce the wage bill by getting rid of Hayden, Ritchie, Hendrick etc imo, than to worry about transfer fees. We’re already massively overstretched and any first team signings will obviously want big money which we can barely afford to give at the present time in relation to incoming regulations. All comes down to contract length, really. Tbh in the current market they've probably undersold both of them. I kinda compare it to Leeds, and how their two assets were Raphinha & Phillips. They bagged £100m. LCFC will prob end up at £75m.
AyeDubbleYoo
In theory they should be in a really week position after getting relegated, but that doesn't seem to factor in too much.

Parachute payments assist in containing the inevitable money drop and allows the clubs to gamble on keeping players rather than requiring them to sell? Which is a bit of a shame as only Forest were thick enough to spend money on our cast offs. Take them out of the equation and nobody seems to want to pay any money for our players, we just loan them out forever. Surely we can get shot of some of them for some cash. The College Dropout
At 35m to 40m it’s not much of a bargain but a fair price. The likelihood of making An actual profit is low though.
mofo
I think 35m is a good price to be honest, I'm quite excited by Barnes, always looks a threat.
McCormick
Yeah, not many wingers you can buy that will almost guarantee you double digit goals in the prem for 35m. Maddison for 40m was the better deal (and the better player) but he was on double the wages.

Also the whole Maddison idea came with the thought that, was he not to play in a front 3, that we were going to play him as an inverted winger playing in the half space, where as it actually looks like we're going for direct forwards. Even if (numbers wise) he has a similar season to his last couple and is coming up with consistent goals and assists, just playing in and around the top of the table, playing in Europe, being English, all should see his price go up 20m or so if we chose to move him on in a couple years. I get what you're saying, I'm looking at these valuations of £20-25m for Murphy, and wondering what planet people are living on? £15m is a reasonable fee though, but I do still think there aren't that many clubs who'll actually pay it.
