Keggy_Keagal Posted Monday at 17:15 Share Posted Monday at 17:15 (edited) I'd go with Joelinton for LW for the final. I think he'd body Arnold and would also help with the cover for Salah . Edited Monday at 17:18 by Keggy_Keagal typo

Barnes rarely looks fast for us, either. Makes some clever off the ball runs, mind.

I'd love to the return of the 2 Joe's dovetail on the left with Barnes on the right. It'll take a massive effort from the Liverpool midfield and Trent to contain that and crossed to the back post would cause problems for them as well. Plus, with Hall out, I'd be happy to gamble leaving Tino and Salah 1 vs 1.
The College Dropout Posted Monday at 19:41 Share Posted Monday at 19:41 Barnes does look much slower than his Leicester days. I thought he was rapid for them. He's still gets to his spots and can execute mind. Much prefer him 1v1 than Gordon

Was that contested ball played into him in the air, or back to goal around chest height. It was suddenly an option as an out ball again. He often did well and retained possession, or turned away from his man. I know his passing is still loose and he nearly gave a goal away. But considering how poor our build up is at times. It’s a great option to have. Especially if he is in that hybrid left channel sort of role he plays. Where he will be able to isolate the full back in the air or to get his body in. I thought we were worse once he went off. Had much more control first half. Although he was probably always only doing 55-60 minutes.

Time on the pitch obviously helps but Howe is always giving Barnes a lot of direction mid game, I just hope he becomes more coachable as he’s getting more minutes because if he can adapt a bit and take on more responsibility he will be a great asset for us. He's not an apprentice you know. He knows his way around a football pitch. He's actually a very good footballer.
huss9 Posted Monday at 21:48 Share Posted Monday at 21:48 better finisher than gordon.

The Prophet Posted Monday at 21:54 Share Posted Monday at 21:54 I recall him been pretty rapid when he has space to run into.
Tonalis Bookie Posted Tuesday at 11:46 Share Posted Tuesday at 11:46 stepping in for gordon in the final and playing a blinder in an NUFC would be the moment this transfer finally made sense
jackyboy Posted Tuesday at 11:53 Share Posted Tuesday at 11:53 Looking forward to seeing him on the left. I think he his deceptively quick and knows when to run and when not. He is also a better finisher than Gordon. Willock has been sadly disappointing so can't see him playing there
r0cafella Posted Wednesday at 10:47 Share Posted Wednesday at 10:47 I don't want to sidetrack @Cfexcellent player ratings thread but the Harvey Barnes rating which seems to be a c at the time of posting got me thinking. Did we overpay for him?
Kid Icarus Posted Wednesday at 10:51 Share Posted Wednesday at 10:51 (edited) I don't think so, but I do think there's an element of right player wrong time about him. Ideally you want a player like Barnes to come in as more of a finishing touch when you need an impact sub to complement what you already have - like Liverpool got with Jota and Arsenal got with Trossard. £40m on that type of player when you still need a starting RW and RCB and back up CF might not have been the best allocation of resources with the huge benefit of hindsight. Did we overpay for him? In the three seasons prior to him signing: 2021/22: 40 games, 13 goals, 3 assists 2020/21: 48 games, 11 goals, 13 assists 2019/20: 35 games, 13 goals, 4 assists Would say based on that, £40M is probably about right for him. Sometimes players and clubs don't work out in the same way, but it doesn't mean it was an overpay.

His stats are definitely impressive on paper but for me he's quite limited given the price and wages. I just wanted to gauge some thoughts as CFs great thread for me thinking. AyeDubbleYoo Posted Wednesday at 11:03 Share Posted Wednesday at 11:03 I believe he’s a good player, just Gordon making the LW his own (and his injuries) have scuppered him. More difficult decision because of the stakes in the final, but generally I would play him as much as possible while Gordon is out.

Did we overpay for him? Nah, that’s going rate for his output. Just we clearly had Gordon set as RW, but he went to Euro u21s, smashed it up, then came into season with confidence. Barnes injury and Gordon made LW his own. I believe a good fee is still there for him, because he’s a one in three LW if played regularly, which attracts clubs. Needs to produce final run of games, stay injury free, for us to get that though.
