Personally I think one-twos are one of the most effective forms of attack, always hated having midfielders like Colback and Shelvey precisely because they were too lazy/slow to attempt them. AyeDubbleYoo
Barnes isn't really predictable, he's two-footed and can score goals from both sides. He's more of a wide forward where ASM is a winger. Maybe that's what we are looking for. Very few players in the PL focus primarily on beating people in 1-v-1 situations. Even if they do it's more a quick drop of the shoulder to get a pass or shot away.

He’s not Maxi but his big man style and aura is baller. Someone that would be excellent at 5 aside. Touch, dribbling, balance, agility, quick feet, ability to strike a ball, spotting and executing clever passes, technique, ability to use weaker foot and range of striking techniques. Just raw footballing ability. I was really hoping we were going to add more ballers to the squad in the window to play with Isak, Bruno and ASM. At the highest level you need players with that cuteness to win you a game. Howe and the leadership have earned my trust. But I look at our wide options and think - smart managers will be able to stop these lot from playing. Barnes at least, if he can continue to get to his spots he will finish and score goals. 29 minutes ago, mrmojorisin75 said: Our entire offence is built on one twos and getting into space between/behind FB and CB. prefabtoon
Sometimes you have to sell the fans Favorite to buy ‘someone better’ IE- Andy Cole for Les Ferdinand. comes to mind Hope it has a similar outcome. AyeDubbleYoo
As much as I love ASM it’s not comparable to selling Cole. That would be like selling Bruno or Isak.

Aye, I didn't mean so much the individual attributes he has in front of goal (he clearly is an excellent finisher who can pick up goalscoring positions well) but moreso what his weaknesses as a player (1v1, vision to unlock a deep defence etc) could mean for our patterns of play when attacking as a team. It's an open question, because his strengths and weaknesses both have to be looked at in the context of the players around him and our style of play as a collective, but it's a debate worth having, even though Howe and the recruitment team have earned our trust. Cookie1892
Great bit of business this, clearly ASM isnt the type of player Howe can rely on to play the way he wants and would become a bench option. Makes sense to cash in on him. Barnes will be excellent i think and fits in with the way we play these days

Displayname
Think this guy will get alot of goals for us considering how many chances we wasted last season. Happy to get him if Howe thinks its best to get rid of ASM. The funds from the sale will hopefully allow room for signing a more attacking left back aswell. It wasn’t an oversimplification. You meant it. And now you’re trying to make it sound relevant. Our wide players don’t have the quality to do that. Almiron is technically limited. So while he has good movement and pace, he’s dependent on Bruno and Trips finding him with excellent passes that give him time and space. On the left Joe’s combine well but sometimes there’s a lack of ideas and creativity. Can’t speak too much on Gordon, he also seems to like a give and go, uses both feet but doesn’t have ‘his moves’. From our 4, there’s not anyone that demands the ball like a Diaz, Grealish, Saka, Mitoma etc.
