Feels like the rain really affected our diagonal balls and intricate play on the right hand side and not least Trippier’s crossing. All in all we were quite good but Dortmund just had the edge on us. They managed to break our second press repeatedly in the first half to find space behind the midfield. Fair play to them and their support.

If we'd scored first I think we put a few past them but they played their game well.

 

Felt like we wasted a few really good crossing opportunities, some poor first touches (Joelinton) slowed our attacking build up at times, but we still had chances towards the end to score. 

 

Sandro was very good when he came on. AG is becoming a real problem for anyone he comes up against.

 

Definitely a frustrating loss but we'll learn from it and become an even better side

We huffed and puffed but thought Almiron and Wilson were a bit too easy to play against. 

 

A draw probably would have been about right, but Dortmund defended well, rode their luck and we can't grumble too much at the result.

You've covered all bases there haven't you?  Dortmund were excellent but we huffed and puffed, yet a draw would probably have been right.

We still lack that genuine quality in attacking areas to break teams down who sit in. This isn’t a criticism either but it’s games like this where you could argue we would have been better off spending the summer budget on first team ready starters.

The whole ref team was poor tonight, Dortmund got away with so many niggly fouls to stop our counter without so much as a hint of a yellow and the penalty appeal wasn't even considered by VAR. 

 

Dortmund did their homework, set up well, defended well and looked dangerous on the counter. Second half we turned the screw but for the woodwork we could have gone on to win it.

 

As for the players, Joelinton looked off the pace, Gordon looked our best player again, Tripper was off his game and with a delivery like that from Targett I'm not sure why he didn't deputise when he came on, wicked cross from the free kick. Losing Isak felt like the turning point and it just turned out to be an extremely frustrating night.

 

We get a second crack at the whip, albeit away from home, we still need a couple of wins to stand a chance of going through. We need to forget about this quickly and get back to winning ways.

Dortmund were excellent but we look like we belong in the UCL. Very competitive game and they grabbed a goal at the perfect time. Could have easily been 3-2 either way.

Utterly shite weather, an undoubtedly weird referee, injuries, most players not at their optimum levels, and Dortmund having a really good first half was all the difference.

Joelinton was garbage mind. Not his fault exactly but rarely if ever offers anything against a low block.

Shut Trippier down and you shut NUFC down. Hats off to Dortmund, tactically they absolutely nailed that and defended brilliantly. 

Would’ve liked to have seen Livra on and doing something different with Trips. But Targett was good.

That's European football though the reffin has always been like that.

Not sure I agree with Dortmund being excellent given that second half like. Thought they were quite poor, very open on the left hand side and let us have a number of good chances. Definitely a good first half display though, looked good on break. Draw would have been fair.

Wilson scores and we win. Need to get a result in Dortmund or we will be playing for 3rd place. Trippier's delivery was shocking today and I thought our midfield was non existent. Gordon or Schar probably only players who performed anywhere near their usual standard (Willock was ok when he came on also). Need Botman back, not only for his defending, but obviously his passing range.

We played canny good today but when the opposition are sitting on a lead you have to make your set pieces count. We never changed it up to puzzle there defence or keeper. That can make the difference in tight games like these.

Really don't get the fuss being made about the Dortmund performance at all.

 

If Isak stays on we win this comfortably IMO.

 

Wilson playing the lone role upfront before we switched formation, ultimately cost us.

 

We needed more involvement from our striker in general play to better control the game in central areas and limit their counter opportunities.

Yeah ultimately had a one of those nights feel about it. Their defence were sound in the air but wobbling elsewhere, I thought we were good to come back around the hour but it spluttered a bit
