That he was going to be the next England number 1 because he'd played well in the various England youth teams

Trafford has looked so weak this season from crosses, hopefully with age he'll get better

GKs real ability is mental. That doesn't come early. You might grt a freak like Donnarumma, but in general keepers need all sorts of experienceto develop.

Tall, quick reflexes and intelligent. That's what you look for in a young keeper. They can bulk out, learn to read the game and get their passing up to scratch over time, the other 3 thing you cannot teach.

His mebtal ability is something we have to accept Howe will know more about than us. I think kompany knows a player as well, especially youth.

For me it's a perfect way to clear out the crap keepers we've got and get some youth into the squad. He'll only improve, not being in the firing line might suit him as he works to understand the game. Again, Howe will know I'm sure. He certainly saw something in Ramsdale.

If we can get him at a good price and he’s prepared to learn, sit on the bench for a couple of years and he fills out, we could be playing a blinder here.

We will need a keeper in 2/3 years and Trafford undoubtedly has ability. He looks a bit weak at the moment but that can be sorted by the time he’s No1.

Think him understudy to Pope will be a great experience for him as well. Here's 22 year old Pope. Not exactly Conan the Barbarian.

Either he fulfills his potential or we recoup or profit from the 16m fee so it's not that big a gamble. There's always the chance that we sign an established top goalie in a few years anyway.

the second doesnt happen without the first.

who's gonna pay over £15 for keeper that didnt fulfill his potential?

its a risk, but one we should be willing to take if we can afford it and eddie and the recruitment team are convinced.

You have to remember that he’d likely be playing behind a much more solid midfield and defence.

unless he signs for us :boomboom:

Would be a great back-up keeper signing. The drop off between Pope to Dubravka was huge!

Also - interesting that a club which needs to sell by 1st July is throwing around £16m bids ;)

I wouldn’t read too much into that. Didn’t we agree to sign in June and then formally sign Botman on the 1st July?

You can’t nurture a young goalkeeper in a team that is relegation fodder.

Isn't it a bit different with 'keepers in that that's kind of what you want because they're being tested much more regularly?

Looks to get down sharpish on those youtube clips, no idea what his footwork is like. Guess we'll find out soon enough when Purpies shoulder bone leaps out of it's socket after a month or 2 of the new season

Looks like he's got far higher ability than Pope with his feet, which is good to see.

Wanted Mamardashvili because he also has age on his side, but more than happy if this is the route we're taking.

Not really, they are tested in that they are constantly under fire but everything becomes haphazard compared to the structure you want to develop them playing, as well as the impact on the mental side of it where you might pull off some decent saves on a regular basis, but you have absolutely no realistic chance of being successful.

Just saw Burnley paid around £15m for him rising to 19M...

Did they sign him from Man City? I'd guess there could be a sell on clause in there too, hence Burnley wanting at least/around £20m for him.

Good with his feet but can he stop the ball from going into the net? Go buy some German kid 5 million pounds and call it a day... No need for PL tax here with a Championship keeper

I presume that Gordon knows him as well from the u21s.
