Collage
I find it hard to see Mitchell and the scouting team not identifying any alternatives, as the Guehi deal dragged on.
J7
Not much to disagree with to be honest. He’s one of the best in the business and needs to be allowed time to put everything in place. Still baffled by the end of the window though. It felt more like zero scouting network, never mind a poor one.
nufc4eva
I think that's a good interview, especially around dealing with multiple deals at once. For too long we seem to focus on one thing. Also the global reach and scouting is needed and Eddie has to make some trade offs/accept to improve we need to look further to get the value
Danh1
Seen people getting pissy about Mitchell throwing Howe under the bus but I don’t see that. I respect the honesty of the interview and feel more assured about the owner’s ambitions moving forward. Compare it to September 2008. Keegan had just left and the future was very bleak
The Prophet
Overall it does sound like that both Howe and Mitchell are going to have to put on their big boy pants and concede a bit of ground.
Collage
“You can be on multiple deals at any one time, the focus doesn’t have to be that narrow,” he said." I mean, isn't this obvious? Sounds strange to me.
Menace
So the Bournemouth poster was bang on that Eddie is a control freak. It makes sense. £65M for Guehi ffs.
WilliamPS
10 minutes ago, The Prophet said: “We didn’t have the sales window we thought we would have – and we have to look at that strategy as well, was that right, it was all aligned with the head coach. We have a lot to look at.” Im not sure how to read this, whether he means (or the paper has misprinted) “was it all aligned with the head coach” As that would make sense to me, for example the interest in Miggy, the talk about Trippier, based on Howes comments Howe didn’t want either going and they were put up for sale, plus the Gordon business. If the lesson here is Howe has to be happy with the sales plan I’m all for it.

I think that shouldn't be a surprise to what Howe has also said in the past. It's about whether at a much larger club etc he accepts a much larger infrastructure etc in terms of recruitment. The Bonk
Quote Without directly naming Guehi, he offered insight into the club’s fraught negotiations with Palace and said the days of “spending, spending” were over for Newcastle, and would be replaced by a global recruitment strategy with improvements in data and talent ID helping them replicate clubs like Brighton who have found “undervalued talent” in the summer. He also said the club’s sales strategy would be revamped. This is what we should be most excited for. It's basically what @The College Dropout has been describing in various threads. It's what's previously gained Mitchell his reputation and what I had read about him when hired. It's the only way we'll be able to crack into the Sky 6's cartel moving forward. I hope Howe see's value in this too and uses his skill to improve those players identified by a new approach.

The Prophet
I like Eddie's method of signing good eggs to build on a solid dressing room, but Mitchell is right, we need to take more risks in foreign markets.

AyeDubbleYoo
Do we really believe that Howe is stupid enough to expect or demand a level of control that probably doesn’t exist at any top-level club? Surely he knows enough to work within a modern football setup, he’s a smart young manager.
