Yorkie
It was an error but nothing heinous and - as has been the case so much this season - the inability to convert chances is far more accountable to not getting the result. He was absolutely brilliant prior to that and I'm gutted for him that the moment fell to him.
TheInfiniteOdyssey
Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t in that situation. Hadn’t stuck out a leg and Olmo just has a free strike on goal. The fault for the pen is more on our lack of ability to keep the ball last min.
Mountain
Hopefully it doesn't affect his confidence as he's been a stalwart. Was perfectly fine until that moment so I can't hate on him for one second, especially when the corrupt ref should have already blown.
M4
Feel bad for the guy, yes he should maybe have done better... but he should never have been in a position to make that foul had we just played the game out.

jemo96
In fairness we should defend as a team and not put individuals under undue pressure resulting in mistakes.
Sir Joel Inton
He’s played the most football of anyone, in a calamitous defence at times. It’s no surprise he might be tired, physically or mentally, leading to something like this happening. He should never have been put in the position where he needed to put his foot in, several other players failed before he did.
KaKa
Don't envy any of our defenders this season tbh. This team is so chaotic to play in and it really needs to be sorted out in the summer somehow. Completely lacks composure and invites so much pressure on the defence. Thought Malick was brilliant all night. Really unfortunate he's made that challenge at the end. Still room to grow for him though. He's played so much it almost feels like he's been here longer than he has.
Kanj
He was the best CB on the pitch today imho.
Mike
There's a ton of piss in this thread that needs testing.
Pata
It's harsh to even call it a mistake IMO, brilliant play by Olmo. He's a 24 year old CB in a new league who has done incredibly well during a tough season, some of the posts without naming any names are absolute garbage. AmericanLooneyToon
Yeah the timing of it was heartbreaking but the defense held one of the best teams in the world to a clean sheet for 94 minutes and he was a major part of that. It was just a good move in the box by a player with fresh legs. I don't think Thiaw was expecting Olmo to turn in right away so he panicked a little bit. Just one of those things. I mostly just feel bad for him cause I'm sure he feels it more than anyone.
Kanj
Aye but it’s classic modern football he made the move with the intention of going down if there was a hint of contact. Look at the reaction of the leg as it’s hit. Goes backwards and he falls over. Penalty by law but just annoying how he went for that.

We did in that moment though. Our shape was good, and if he hadn't caught Olma, Joelinton was well positioned to close it out.
duo
It was a tired tackle which is forgivable when you consider the amount of football this lad has played. I think he's the only player whose not had a rest. Edited March 11 by duo
The Prophet
9 hours ago, Zero said: I do agree that if we keep on conceding like this the next season then I suspect there’s something wrong with Thiaw which we can’t figure it out yet. Maybe it's his fault we keep on conceding goals, maybe it's the subpar goal keepers, or the ageing right back, or the lads in front of him who can't hang onto the ball with seconds to go. Yorkie
He's not flawless but he's been extremely dependable this season. Constantly available and always at a very high level, the odd mistake notwithstanding. Honestly thought he was so good last night, such a pisser he essentially took the fall for those calamitous final few moments.
Menace
I think he's pretty overrated by our fans to be honest, but a positive outlook overall in a dull season.
GEFAFWISP
Titus Woodgate. I'll take it over some of the dross we've had at CB over the years.

Aye. I still prefer Schar but Thiaw has played well on the whole. He needs better concentration and composure but hopefully that comes. And he was done by some great play too. This was not one of his worst mistakes at all.

Think there’s an ambitious pass by Gordon for no reason - run it into the corner or at least sustain a safe attack. But that’s not what will be remembered. John P
We rely on our centre backs to do quite a lot of risky and/or last ditch defending. It's going to go wrong sometimes, especially against top players. Thought Thiaw was great other than that
Lush Vlad
Still a bit Bramble’esque for me. Not as many calamitous errors and lapses of concentration. Not as powerful or quick. But he seems to be quite often having a great game. Yet there is always a nagging doubt that he might drop a bollock. I actually thought he was brilliant last night. Right until the last kick/foul. Pata
People must have erased Schär's 24/25 season out of their minds, he was dropping clangers left and right and I love him.
