This problem with "breaking down a low block" is a myth in my opinion. That's not how/why Bournemouth, Fulham etc beat us. We should double-down on Eddie-ball, pace, pressing etc. but that is going to take at least five new additions otherwise we won't have the depth to carry it out across multiple competitions. We were excellent all around, bottom 1/2 , top 1/2, doesn't mean there isn't further room for improvement The staleness of the foward line and lack of pace and the back have been consistent issues throughout. Kimbo
My only concern is how we afford everything else we need to compete across the number of games we’re going to have. I’d love Joao Pedro as well, but him and Elanga could be £120m, then the Trafford reports are talking £40m. And that is without the CB that we need, who really has to be a top player. I was expecting our plan to be a big money signing, along with a number of lower priced players spotted by our scouts that haven’t really proved themselves yet (Huijsen to Bournemouth type signings). I'm just wondering what that is being based on. Kiernan Dewsbury Hall was £30m wasn't he? He seems as average as they come

80
For reference. The competent but unambitious middle third is where we struggle. 5 wins, 5 losses and 2 draws against the top 7. 12 wins and no reply against the bottom 6. 3 wins, 4 draws and 7 losses against the middle 7. AyeDubbleYoo
Could be a mentality thing as well TBF. The middle teams are surprisingly hard to beat and have the tools to hurt you if you don’t play well. So you may play below your level and they might be able to take points of you if they play well. They also raise their game against you. Since we don't play possession football, we also don't really grind down these teams like Man City can. Maybe less so next season if they all sell their best players. I don't know how the PSR cycle works but I guess if we got all of our top targets we could maybe overspend this summer and then not spend the following? If you flip that bottom line round to 7 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses, which doesn't feel unlikely, then we would have finished second only four points behind Liverpool. That's is the obvious area of improvement. I feel like playing Tonali centrally has already improved our performances against these sorts of teams as the gap and recovery pace between defence and midfield caused us big problems in some of those games. Find a way to sort that and continue as we are in other games then we will have a great season.
LFEE
On the radio they were saying Mitchell offered Murphy to Forest for Elanga as part of a deal last summer but EH blocked it.
The College Dropout
We struggle against competent teams that look to hit us on the break undoubtedly. This is a fact. The bottom 6 were simply not competent. Wolves and Spurs away aside actually - those were close games. It the lack of quality/belief showed.
samptime29
Not overly convinced on Elanga like.

Respect to EH, fuck off again Mitchell. Murphy was a huge part of our season even though he is a limited player. Why the hell was Mitchell trying to do deals behind EH’s back

Slim
Also 99% people would sold him at that time before his form kicked in. Was one of the main scapegoats
Fak
A front three of Gordon, Isak and Elanga being bang on it would be unstoppable. Absolute powerhouse of a front three potentially.

Most wanetd him as an understudy, not sold.

Otherwise the RW slot would have been a more creative choice.
kingxlnc
If Pedro, Elanga, Scalvini, Ramsey and Trafford sign - that would actually be a very solid window. Add Walker-Peters or Lamptey for backup and jobs a good un for this summer. Can it compete for title? Not sure - as it perhaps lacks the star quality of Liverpool and Man City in particular but definitely top 4 worthy. Would also want 3-4 youngsters (Cordero is one, Korean is 2) to keep things fresh and ready for the future.
