Aye, and hes still offered more than Elanga.

I would hope so considering how long he was here. Elanga's shown nowhere near enough, but still has an assist more than Miggy did with about 8 months to spare and can count himself unlucky to not have a few more.

Miggy looked a much better footballer and a better fit for us in those opening few months under Rafa than Elanga has so far like, even if his output didn't back it up.

Obviously he was shite for long periods after that under Bruce (who wasn't?) but when he first arrived most people on here liked him.

Lewis Hall couldn’t even get in the side during his loan spell and people on here were wanting to send him back to Chelsea rather than pay for him to go permanent because of how pointless he appeared to be.

Look how that worked out in the end.

Maybe Elanga won’t work out, maybe he will. No-one can say for sure.

But completely writing him off already and saying he’ll always be shite is just the mad ramblings of lunatics.

Lewis Hall’s name needs banning from this thread.

Lewis joined with 12 first team appearances to his name at 19. And was largely banished to the subs bench to develop on the training ground as Howe didn’t think he was ready and was totally untrusted.   But it was clear the reason we signed him was because he’s a baller and he would eventually show it.

Eddie keeps giving Elanga minutes and he doesn’t produce.  At 23/24.  With over 100 PL appearances. And is evidently, not a baller

Elanga will improve with time under Howe that I agree. I guess some thought Hall was useless and now think he should be England’s left back.  But Elanga doesn’t have the footballing ability to go from too early written off (which I agree is foolish) to a potential world beater. That we know he can never be.

The Lewis Hall comparison is incredibly relevant.

Many fans thought Lewis Hall was an unnecessary, expensive signing and he hadn’t done anything in his first few months at Newcastle on loan or at Chelsea to justify the purchase or the price tag. Complaining that £35m was insane money for a kid who’s played 12 times for Chelsea and can’t even break into the Newcastle side.

They were wrong.

Time will tell.

Lewis Hall was an inexperienced kid. That’s the reason why he wasn’t playing.  He wasn’t consistently playing poorly - he wasn’t consistently playing. Because it was clear Howe thought he wasn’t ready and needed developing.

Thats not the same as what’s happening with Elanga.  Elanga is getting minutes. And playing  decent amount. He’s just not playing well.

You are talking about the perception of silly fans - not the actual situation.  Plenty of us at the time (me) read the situation for what it was.

The closer comparison is Gordon tbf.  Elanga needs a confidence boost.

I know I’m talking about the perception of silly fans, that’s the entire point I was making with the Hall comparison.

I wasn’t comparing Elanga and Hall as players. I was comparing the reactions of fans to their signings and price tags.

You are not a baller when it comes to understanding the points being made in my posts

Forrest have played a blinder with Elanga and Johnson, both went for big money and have been shite.

MGW is probably decent saying they actually put up a fight to keep him, but wouldn’t touch another payer from that club with a barge pole.

Elliot Anderson says hi

I wouldn’t pay what they’d want for him now that ship has sailed.

Do you have a theory on how Forest are able to polish a turd and sell them for an inflated price ?

They’ve had a conveyer belt of average managers over recent years and we’ve just taken their DoF from them. So it bodes well for us if the DoF was the key to their rip off tactics.

Forest definitely aren't comparable with a situation like Fergie’s Man Utd cast offs playing shite once they were no longer able to suckle on his teet. A lesson NUFC never seemed to learn from back in the day, we just kept going back for more.

Nee idea I didn’t rate Elanga when we signed him but thought Johnson looked a good prospect at the time when Spurs got him.

Looking at their players now you’d probably take MGW, Anderson and Murillo.

I did notice our Greek keeper is apparently doing well at Seville mind and made a great save at the weekend.

Hopefully Wilson bucks the trend and bodes well like you say.

I did like his instincts for that breakaway at the end of the game. Poor decision-making at the end but you know he'll have had a shot in mind from the moment he scampered away, and he's obviously so desperate to get going for us. It doesn't help us but I did have some sympathy; gifted by only experiencing the moment through highlights.

I don't think anyone else in the side even gets into that position so it's a promising sign. Happy to clutch at straws, all we can do is hope he gets better so I'm choosing to!

Those fans are idiots, and were a loud minority. Don't mistakenly mix them together with those who thought it was too much to pay for someone Howe wouldn't give any chances until it was way overdue, when the money spent could have been used to better effect elsewhere. Although both were wrong, the argument from the latter group was much more rational.

I thought it was more frightening that a fresh Elanga couldn’t scamper away from Cucarella despite the centre half having played the full 90.  I think any of our wingers can do precisely what he did there.  It was shit play at the end of it, too.
